Luke’s pov
I flop on my bed exhausted and look over at the suit hanging on the door that I’m supposed to wear to the pack meeting tonight. Don’t get me wrong, parties are great and all but pack sanctioned parties suck monkey’s ball especially if you’re the Alpha’s son and the next in line for the position.
My other brother and sisters are lucky; all they have to do is show up. I, on the other hand, have to smile, be over-accommodating, and kiss ass all night. Plus with our other “guest” arriving sometime later tonight, I’m going to most likely be doing some damage control.
Speaking of which, I wonder how Zayne did with his first day of school at a new school…
I scratch my head, agitated yet again. I keep telling myself to just forget him but why am I still thinking about him? Refusing to give myself time to contemplate that thought any further, I hoist myself up off the bed and grab a towel heading to the shower across the hall.
After I finish drying, I wrap my towel low on my hips and grab the styling gel my hair making sure to slick my hair back. I grab the suit from the door and begin the long tortuous process of getting ready. I check myself out in the mirror and realize that it doesn’t feel like me, so I spike up my hair a bit and trade in the suit pants for a pair of my nicer blue jeans. Happy with the results I head out my room.
As I walk down the stairs still straightening my tie, I run into my mother who quickly shoots me a disappointed look then walks past me setting a plate of snacks down outside on one of the picnic tables. I’ve been getting that dirty look from her ever since she caught my tiptoeing through the door after skipping school today.
But I couldn’t very well tell her that I had a forced shift after meeting my mate and ended up shredding my clothes in the process. So instead I told her that I wasn’t feeling good, which she totally saw through and instead put me to work in setting up the party working me like a slave.
Mom always stresses the importance of education and rarely if ever let any of us skip school. I wish I could tell her what really happened but that’s not really an option I care to explore ever .so instead I hang my head in shame and wait at the door for the first guest to arrive. The meeting actually starts at 8 but by 7 o’clock everyone is already here and accounted for so I spend the rest of the time trying to unhinge the fake smile I had to plaster on my face.
“It’s a real riot up in here,” Chase says sarcastically while slinging an arm around my shoulders while holding a soda in his hand. “What year was this song released again? 1534? I heard the 17th century remix was a helluva lot better.”
I give a fist bump, laughing at his lame joke. But he’s right though, this classical music was beyond lame. It was like mom was trying to overcompensate for our lack of class but honestly if the vampires didn’t like us now, I doubt our choice in music was going to change their mind. Speaking of vampires—
“Hey man, about what happened earlier today, could you not tell anyone? I just really don’t want it getting out that I spazed out in class and if dad finds out….”I trail off hoping he understands. If dad found out about my forced change, he was going to think I was irresponsible and could keep me from becoming Alpha soon.
“Don’t worry, man. I got you, alright? Just tell me when you’re ready, okay?” he pats me on the back and smiles and I nod in relief.
We stand there for a few and then Chase begins twirling his can, sloshing the coke. “Sooooooo, you gonna tell me what this meeting’s about? Does it have anything to do with that vampire earlier at school?”
