Hello again! This is a short story about Riley's younger brother Jasper! I will obviously still be uploading for Invisible Love but I made this and i thought it would be fun to upload. Enjoy!

The world blurs past me as I stumble through the woods trying to get away from them. We've been running from them so long I don't remember what it's like to stand still. I see the rendezvous point and stop as I approach it and look for my parents. I hear a snap and whirl around with my knife in my hand. I see my father's familiar face come out of the forest closely followed by my mom. My father's face is lined with wrinkles from his smiles but ever since my only sister Riley has died his smiles have started to disappear.

"Did you guys see Hailey by any chance while you were running to the rendezvous point."

"No sweetie we didn't but I'm sure she will show up soon. She's a tough girl she'll be here soon." My mother gives me a delicate smile to reassure me.

Our family barely talks anymore but we keep going as that is what Riley would have wanted. It's been nearly five years since we lost her and it still hurts to think about her, my eyes start to water but I quickly brush them away if it weren't for Hailey I would probably be on the edge of snapping. "We can wait here for Hailey to come and meet us."

My parents nod in agreement and we all start to settle in for the night. It's my turn for watch tonight so I settle up against a tree and begin looking around. I always found the forest enchanting almost as if it's calling to me to explore every nick and cranny. The stars shine above me and I smile at them and think of my dream to see the stars that will probably never come true now.

I hear rustling and I quietly re-adjust myself into a sprinting position and hold my knife out in front of me ready to attack. Hailey steps out of the bush, her blond hair falls in cascades down her back reaching her legs and she holds her body in a defensive position ready for an attack and she holds a knife out in front of her. Her striking purple eyes scan the clearing and they finally reach me and my family.

"Hey there you should watch where you point that thing Hailey, I won't bite. Glad you could find us." I taunt giving her a wide smile. She sticks her tongue out at me and approaches us. The air around begins to smell like coconuts and roses as she approaches me and I take a deep breathe in savouring the sweet smell of her. I reach out for her and pull her in close to me and I feel the familiar warmth that radiates off of her. I give her a big bear hug and I whisper into her ear

"Please don't ever scare me like again." She gives me a kiss on the cheek to reassure me that she will try.

I know it's foolish to have a relationship when the world is ending but she keeps me sane and help me keep going plus she is also probably the nicest person ever.

"I think we are getting close to that safe haven place that we heard about from that group from a while back. If we keep going in the same direction we should probably reach it in a few days if that group was telling the truth." I say gently.

She nods her head and leans into me and looks up at the sky. I look up also and see the stars shining above me and give a smile in response to them.

My head is sore from lying up against the tree for so many hours. I look over at my parents and feel a smile tug at the corner of my lips as I see them curled up with each other sleeping peacefully. I rarely get any sleep now without nightmares plaguing my mind. I feel my eyes start to droop and I quickly jolt up from me falling asleep.

I stare into the forest bored but my eyes fall on a slight glow in the distance and I immediately perk up. Grabbing my pack and putting it on my back I begin to stand up. I get in a defensive stance and slowly start to creep closer to the light careful not to make a sound.

As I pull past the branches I see a tiny clearing and the fire that I saw. My eyes then shift to the girl huddled next to the fire cradling her arm.

"Hey." I say giving her one of my famous awkward waves.

She immediately scoots back and grans a knife that was sitting besides her in the grass. Still clutching her arm she holds out the knife out it front of her in an awkward position. Her eyes are dancing with panic but after a few seconds she seems to collect herself and glares at me with confidence.

"Are you hurt?" I ask and point to her arm. She gives me yet another glare and stares down at her arm

"I was running and I fell and scraped my arm on the rock, it just stings a lot."

I take a step closer and slowly reach out in front if me.

"Would you like me to wrap it up for you? I know what I'm doing as I took a medical course." I nod towards her arm as I say that. She gives me another dirty look and gently nods her head.

I sit down beside her and grabbing my pack I begin to look for bandages.

"I'm Japser, what's your name?" I ask as I continue to rummage in my pack for my bandages.

"Hailey."

"Well Hailey it's nice to meet you."

I finally find my bandages and grab the disinfectant and gently grab her arm. The cut is not that big it's about 5 centimetres but it's covered in dirt.

"This might sting a bit." I say as press the disinfectant down to clean the wound.

She winces just a bit and let's out a small breath.

"Would you like to travel with me and my family, you know safety in numbers."

She gives me a strange expression and looks up at the sky and takes a deep breathe in. Her eyes look right into mine like they are trying to read my soul.

"Couldn't hurt as you said safety in numbers but, only for a while."

I give her a lazy smile and finish up her bandages.

I will upload the other chapters soon but for now I hope you have a good rest of you morning/day/night!
