"Thank you" I say, smiling at the old lunch maid in front of me. She ignores me and moves onto the next transaction, and I sigh.

Where should I sit... are the girls back yet?

Looking at my usual table, I saw that a few of my friends were still gone. I give a wave as I walk over to them, and they smile.

"Cyrussss!" a girl yells as I set down my tray, and I brace myself as she launches onto my back. "M-mads... that hurts..." I groan, hiking her up to a better spot. She smacks me upside the head, and I wince. "Are you calling me FAT?!" she yells, and the cafeteria falls silent. I blush, staring at my feet. "N-no..." I say, and I hear snickers coming from a table across the cafeteria. I growl lowly, turning to see the idiots who wanted to laugh at me.

I instantly regret it, as I again meet eyes with him. Turning as fast as possible, I set Madlyn down and take a seat for myself. She plops down next to me, and everyone at the table stays quiet.

"Damn them... they think they're so good just because their parents have a better rank in the pack then ours?" Mads said, and a put my hand over her clenched fist. She looked up at me, and I smiled. "Don't think about it." I told her, and she sighed. I looked around at the other girls at our table, and their eyes met mine. "Things will get better after the mating ceremony, I promise."

I set my homework down, hearing a howl coming from the camp mid-grounds. My mom knocked on my door lightly before peeking in.

Invasion of privacy much?

"Cmon, Cyrus... its time to go." she said, looking downcast. I chuckle as I pull her into a hug.

"Mom, you're acting like its the actual mating ceremony. Calm down" I say, and she sniffles. "I-i know... but still... you've grown so much!"

I continue laughing, letting her go and walking towards the front door. I put on my shoes before looking back, grinning. "Don't worry mom, I'll be fine!"

She nodded as I closed the door, and I smiled when she continued telling me to "be safe!" And "don't talk to strange wolfs!"

Madlyn was standing by the porch steps, and she instantly intertwined her hand into mine. Oh, did I forget to mention? She is my absolute, one hundred percent, best friend.

We started walking towards the mid-grounds as the howling picked up. "Are you nervous?" She asked, and I glanced at her. "A bit..." I reply, and she nods.

"M-me too... but it will be fine, alright? Everything will go as planned."

I nod, exhaling. The 'plan' she was talking about is simple: her and I will become mates.

I looked around at the faces surrounding me, drumming my fingers on my thigh.

"Understood?"

"Yes sir!" The crowd around me replied, and I looked up from the ground at our Alpha.

Fuck, I should have been listening...
