Chapter One
"Thank you. For everything." I say to my stylist, Cedric, while holding back tears.
"You're welcome." He says as we embrace.
"Any last minuet advice?" I say.
"Be smart. Trust your instincts." As Cedric looks me firmly in the eyes, he says, "You can do this. I know you can."
"I'm so scared" I say, my voice shaking.
"Now is the time to be brave." Cedric says. "You have keen survival skills, and you're deadly with a sword. All you need to do is focus."
"Focus" I repeat.
"10 seconds until launch" A monotone voice says over the intercom. I step into the glass tube, and it encases me. As I take one last glance at Cedric, I see him mouth "be brave". I can do this. He's right. All I need to do is concentrate. There is a moment of complete stillness while I wait for the pedestal to raise me up into the arena. It starts to move, and I immediately know something is wrong. The tube isn't raising me up- it's lowering me down.
