Part 10

"Can I join you?"My mom asked.

"Sure you can."

"It's nice having you here, I missed you so much."She said sadly.

"I know mom, I just needed to get out on my own and find where I belonged."

"And you did, you found a wonderful man to love you, even though he doesn't seem to eat much."

I hate keeping secrets from my mom. I need to tell her about Josh.

"Um mom, I have to tell you something."

"What is it honey?"

"Well,"here I go, just put it all out on the table,"Josh is a vampire."

"So the curse is true."She said amazed.

"Yea don't tell dad please."

"Eventually he'll find out. How did you know about it?"

"Nana told me about it,she told me a lot of things,"I started taking off the nail polish on my nails,"like how you gave up your powers."

"Oh?"

Oh? Is that all she's going to say? I need answers and nobody's telling me shit.

"Mom, why did you give up your powers?"

"A long time ago these witch hunters were hunting your Nana and she thought it would be best for me to leave Pennsylvania. I gave up my powers to remove myself from the witch grid."

"I'm sure there was another way."I said reassuring her.

"Do you think that they would've stopped if they found out I was pregnant with you? They would've killed both of us. I was protecting you and someday you will understand that I made the right decision."

We sat in silence for what felt like an hour until my mom broke the ice.

"Your father called."

Now seems like the perfect time to ask her how it was possible for me to exist if he is human, but I hate talking about him.

"What for?"I questioned.

"Well, he is your dad."

"No, my dad is out fishing with my boyfriend."

"I don't understand why you're so hateful towards him, he's trying sweetie."

My sperm donor "father" is trying to bond with me. You left me when I was twelve for another family and I can count the number of times I've seen him on one hand. My mom doesn't know what happened to me because I never talk about it. She just thinks I hate him because he divorced her and left.

"Well he should stop trying. I'm going to go take a nap now."I said getting up from the chair and heading to my room. I flopped down on the bed, but before I could go to sleep my phone vibrated. I had gotten a text message from Gale:

Hey Paris, I just want you to know Howl is missing...BTW where have you been? You've missed your shift.

All of a sudden the memory of why I was in sunny California came back to me. The whole reason why I'm running away was because Howl almost killed me. I couldn't even trust the people that were close to me. I love Gale but right now it's safer to lie to her.

Hey Gale, OMG he'll be back, he's ran away before. I'm on vacation with the fam I'll be back in a month. Love you. TTYL.

I turned my cell off before I got another message from her and fell asleep.

I'm alone in my house and it's dark, then all of a sudden a spotlight comes on and Howl's standing under it laughing. Then a red head woman showed up holding on to a brunette haired man. They started closing in on me and Howl pulled out his gun, gave me that creepy smile and said "Did you think I forgot about you?", and shot me. I put my hand on my chest and felt the blood leaking out of me, while they watched me breath my last breath.

I woke up gasping for air and noticed that my bed was soaking wet with sweat.

"Baby you're burning,"My mom said while feeling my head,"let me go get the thermometer."

Just then Josh walked in and sat on the end of the bed.

"You look like you saw a ghost."

Well technically I did see a ghost,which happened to be Howl,but he doesn't need to know about it.

"I just had a bad dream that's all."

My mom walked into the room with a thermometer in one hand and a wet rag in the other.

"Open wide."She said.

"Mom really, that's not necess-"She shoved it into my mouth before I could finish my sentence.

"Honestly, I don't know why you don't let people take care of you."She said.

The thermometer beeped and she took it out of my mouth to read it. Turns out I really was burning up, I had a temperature of 104.3.

"It looks like you have the flu."Josh said.
