Chapter Eight

“Cameron, wake up its 11:30” Jeremy’s voice pulls me out of my sleep.

“Ugh so…?” I groan and turn my back to him and pull the covers over my head.

“Didn’t you say you had an audition?” as soon as he finished the word ‘audition’ I spring up.

“Shit…” I got out of bed and start getting ready to leave, I texted Alicia hoping she had nothing on today because I had no idea where to go. I put on a casual, floral dress and started brushing my teeth.

“You know, I’m no professional… but are you going to your audition in that?” Jeremy stood at the door of the bathroom.

“Oh right, I have to look hireable…” I finished brushing my teeth and stopped before I left the bathroom “and actually Jeremy, you are a professional, don’t lie to me.”

“What? How-I mean why do you think that?” He asked.

“See Jere, there’s this thing called the internet, Google yourself.” I winked walking past him to get a nice cream coloured blouse and some black jeans.

As I was putting up my hair, into a side braid I was worrying because I had still gotten no text back from Alicia. I paced around for a few minutes praying that Alicia would message me back quickly, until Jeremy put his arms on my shoulders. “Calm down, you’ll be fine you’re one of the best actors I know. You can do this.”

“Thank you, but I should get going now” I said as I pushed past Jeremy and walked out the door.

I frantically knocked on the door of Alicia’s room hoping Jeremy wouldn’t see me. The door slowly creaked open to show a tired looking Alicia who had obviously just gotten out of bed. “What do you want?” she yawned.

“Do you even look at your phone” I asked, letting myself in.

“What’s got your panties in a knot?” she said lying back down in her bed.

“We need to get out of here, Jeremy thinks I have an audition and we need to do something, like now” I said pulling Alicia up into a sitting position forcing her to wake up.

“Well alright what do you want to do?”

“I don’t know, lunch or something?”

“Why not” she smiled and put on some clothes. As Alicia was getting dressed Annette walked through the door.

“Hey Cam, what are you doing here?”

“We’re going for lunch, wanna come?” I asked.

“Sure, where are we going?” Annette asked.

“Um, where are we going Alicia?”

“I don’t care Denny’s?”

“Denny’s, really?” I raised my eyebrows at her.

“Look, not sure about anyone else, but I’m pretty broke, because oh I don’t know, college…”

“We could go to Clovis and Charley” Annette suggested.

“Clovis and Charley?! I just said I was broke, you expect me to pay thirty dollars for a salad?” Alicia asked.

“My shout” Annette said.

Clovis and Charley is a very fancy, very expensive restaurant, and Annette was offering to pay for all three of us. “Since when do you have that kind of money?” I asked

“That doesn’t matter just accept the free food” she laughed.

We arrived at the restaurant and we were greeted by a waiter who knew Annette, obviously he knew her quite well as he greeted Annette with a hug. “Annette it’s been too long, where have you been? Not living with your parents anymore I take it.” The man said with a surprisingly not posh accent.

“It’s been way too long, I’ve missed you Tucker. And you’re right I’m at college now.” Annette replied

“College?! That’s great always knew you were a smart one.”

“Stop trying to get a good tip and show us to our table” Annette playfully punched him.

We got to our table and Alicia and I had no idea how to pronounce half of the things on the menu so Annette ordered for us.

“So who’s the guy?” Alicia asked.

“What are you talking about?” Annette looked down at her many sets of cutlery.

Tucker, don’t act like there’s nothing going on there.”

“Oh, please, he’s just a friend, an old crush, nothing more.”

Our food arrived and we were all enjoying our wonderful meals. Alicia was given an Agrigento salad, Annette, roast lamb with a balsamic reduction and I was served a cheese soufflé. We were about half way through our dishes until I saw Jeremy walk into the restaurant, accompanied with Blair.

“Shit” I said pulling the flowers in the middle of our table in front of my face.

“What’s wrong Cameron?” Alicia said trying to peer behind the flowers.

“Jeremy just walked in and he thinks I’m at an audition.”

“Oh, um, what do we do?” Alicia began to panic.

“Nothing. We do nothing.” Annette said moving the flowers back to the middle of the table.

“Are you crazy?!” I whisper yelled.

“We’re taking you out to lunch to get your mind off the fact that you didn’t realize the auditions we’re yesterday and now they’re not letting you perform.”

“Annette, have I ever told you how awesome you are?”

“It could happen more often” she laughed.

I continued eating my lunch a bit worried. My eyes kept darting to Jeremy and back at my lunch. I noticed Jeremy walking over.

“Cam, you’re meant to be at your audition, what are you doing here?” he asked kneeling down at the table

“Don’t bring it up! We just got her to stop crying!” Annette slightly tapped my leg a looked at me as if to say ‘play along’.

I put my face into my hands “I’m such an idiot I can’t believe it” I wailed.

“Now look what you’ve done.” Alicia said sliding her chair over and putting her arms around me.

“Wait, I’m a little confused here…” Jeremy directed to Annette.

“She didn’t realize that the auditions were a two day thing, she only thought you had to turn up for one day, but you had to turn up for both, she was denied entry, so we took her out for lunch to, you know, get her mind off it…”

“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t know, anything I can do?”

“I think you’ve done enough, are we done here girls?” Annette stood up and Alicia and I followed her out.
