I pulled on my coral pink plain t shirt dress tiredly as I yawned softly, it was 8 in the morning on a Saturday and for some reason I was awake so I decided to go down to the cafe that's right down the block from me and get a smoothie, I do this often just usually at 9 at night.
I pulled on the all white converse like shoes I had before grabbing a light jacket, my apartment key and my phone. I walked out of my apartment, making sure it closed before starting my short but enjoyable walk. It was a nice day out. The road wasn't super busy as most people were either at work or school before now so it was simi quiet. I walked at a slow-ish pace as I wasn't in a hurry in the slightest. I wanted to enjoy the fresh air before I get back home and coupe myself up in my apartment for days.
Arriving at the cafe doors I pulled it open and the oh-so-familiar ringing ran across the store. I stepped in and noticed it was fairly empty, there was an older couple sitting in the middle of the store, the man was helping the women up out of her seat. There was also a young-ish looking girl, maybe 16 or 17, sitting on a laptop with a steaming cup of coffee next to her. I smiled softly as I made my way towards the counter,
"Aye, it's smoothie girl." I heard a familiar voice,
"Oh hey! You're still here?" I asked, the familiar blonde girl who was standing behind the counter,
"I work until 9 today, I didn't come in until 1 so not too bad." She said, her friendly, welcoming smile was still plastered on her face. I reached the counter and set my keys on them,
"I would like a berry smoothie with chunks of strawberries and blueberries." I smiled at her as she rang it in and I pulled a $10 out of my jacket pocket.
"That'll be $7.69 please." Her voice was still pleasantly cheerful for someone who'd been in a mostly empty coffee shop since 1 in the morning. I placed the money in her patiently waiting hand, as she typed in how much I gave her and counted out my change a boy I'd never seen before came from the back of the coffee shop, tying the apron around his waist.
"You're on time today." the girl joked looking at him as she pulled out the last coin and held her hand out for me to take it. I reached my hand out and she dropped it delicately in my hand, smiling.
"I was only late once!" He shot back
"Twice!"
"No..oh shit you're right." She giggled and grabbed a cup then a sharpie, writing something acrossed it. The boy's attention flickered away from her to me and I finally paid more attention to him and I noticed he was like lowkey cute, "I like the color of your dress."
"Oh, um," I looked down, instantly forgetting what dress I was wearing then looking back at him, smiling softly,
"Thanks. I like the color of your...apron." I made apron sound more like a question than a statement,
"Pfft, I bet you say that to all the workers."
"No I really mean it! " I joked and he laughed,
"You're funny," Leaning down on the counter, "What's your name?"
Before I even had a chance to answer, the girl stepped in,
"I call her Smoothie Girl." She set the drink down grabbing a straw from behind the counter and setting it on top of my cup, I went to grab it but the boy slid it towards him,
"What's in this? It looks...interesting." He inspected it like it was a bomb or something,
"It's just a berry smoothie with strawberry chunks and blueberries." I said and watched him, he nodded,
"I might have to try it sometime." He said and slid it towards me. I bit my lip before grabbing a straw out of the cup from beside the cash register and handing it to him,
"Try it." I said, he just kind of looking at me,
"Seriously?"
I nodded,
"I can't take a drink of your drink. I'm sure there's a rule about it somewhere in the handbook." He commented and I laughed softly, I saw the girl just looking between us,
"It'll be the best thing you've ever tasted in your life."
"What if it's not?"
"It will be."
"But like..what if it's not?"
I raised an eyebrow, "What? You want like, a bet or something?"
He nodded,
"If I taste this and I don't like it...you have to come back here tomorrow at the same time and taste a drink i make for you."
"I don't know if I trust you, you might put something gross in it...like bananas." I made a grossed out face and he laughed holding out his hand,
"No Bananas." I hesitantly took his hand.
"Sure." I wasn't too worried, the drink was amazing. He took the straw I handed him and opened it sticking it in my cup, he brought the cup to his lips and took a drink. I saw his face light up with surprise but it instantly went away and set the cup down in front of me,
"I didn't like that..it's too...strawberry-y." He said and I smiled softly,
"See you tomorrow at 8." I grabbed the drink and walked over to a booth near the back wall where the employee's enter and exit from behind the counter. I sat down and started scrolling through every possible social media site on my phone. After an hour my smoothie was gone and I was bored, I was getting ready to leave when suddenly another drink was set in front of me. I looked up and the boy from before was standing there,
"I don't have the money for this.." I said, quietly and he shook his head laughing softly and sat down across from me,
"It's on me."
I shook my head, "I can't let you.."
He stopped me,
"Seriously, it's fine, something to keep your pretty face around here" He winked softly and I felt myself blushing but I tried to play it off cool and like I wasn't,
"Are you flirting with me?"
"Maybe a little, is it working?"
"Maybe a little" I grabbed the drink and put the straw from my old one it in. Looking around I noticed that everyone had left.
"How will I know it's working a lot?"
"If I come back tomorrow at 8 in the morning." I took a drink and he smiled,
"I can't wait."
I smiled, I definitely planned on returning. I finished the second drink after he'd gone back to work and after I finished it I got up and headed back towards my apartment, already planning an early night tonight.
