chapter ten

"Riker i can't just confess my love for you?"

"why not? be honest with me, how do you feel about me? this past few months have clearly meant as much to you as they much to me"

"riker you're my best friend, i've never had a best friend before not like you and i don't wanna fuck that up by saying i like you"

"if you like me then say you like me dana"

"i like you but.."

"but?"

"but nothing is going to happen and we both know it, so quit acting like this is one of those films where we both admit how much we like each other and we fall in love and get married and have cute little blonde babies because that shit never happens in real life and we both know it"

"dana, it could happen"

"it won't though riker, and if we did get more serious we could never go back to being just friends"

"i never want to be just friends with you though"

"we're too young to be serious anyway"

"dana do you fucking hear yourself? rocky and alex are having a baby and they're younger than us and i'd say that's pretty fucking serious"

"riker can we please talk about this some other time?"

"tonight, let me take you out to dinner for a date. if it doesn't work and it feels really weird we can just ignore it all, but if it feels right how about we decide then?"

"fine"

"good, wear the red dress that makes you look hot" he laughed, grabbing my hips and pulling me closer to him. 

i rolled my eyes and kissed his lips quickly, "you don't get to decide what i'm wearing, you don't own me"

"not yet, anyway" he said quietly, pulling me towards the door and then leading me down the stairs.

"he said what?"

"Alex, shut up he can probably hear you with your foghorn mouth"

"i don't have a loud mouth" she sulked

i raised an eyebrow and laughed, "whatever you say preggo"

we stood in the kitchen talking about my latest encounter with riker, "so what were his exact words?" she seemed intrigued.

"he said "it could happen" and i don't know what that means"

"that means he likes you so admit you like him and stop being a pissy bitch"

"you're lucky you're pregnant or i'd punch you for that"

"seriously though dana, he likes you and you like him. whats the problem?"

"the problem is what if it doesn't work out and we lose our friendship?"

"i think you're missing the fact that it already works"

"what?"

"well you and riker act like me and rocky before the whole pregnant thing happened"

"what are you saying?"

"i'm saying you and riker already act like boyfriend and girlfriend, just without the labels. it's gonna work and it'll all be fine. trust him" she smiled, walking out of the room. i followed her into the living room and dropped onto the couch next to riker, resting my head on his shouler.

"You okay?" he asked, without turning his head from the tv screen, clearly engrossed in the show he was watching. I nodded my head, too comfortable to talk. Maybe this could work i thought to myself, i'd known riker since the start of the year and our friendship felt right, it always had felt like it was supposed to happen. Like he was the person i'd always been looking for. 

I was always torn between wanting things to stay the same and wanting more with Riker. i knew we suited each others personalities, but i knew our friendship if it could be called that was too good to ruin, even if we didn't act like typical friends. I lifted my head to look at him, smiling at the way he gently laughed when something amused him. the way his eyes lit up like a kid at christmas. i looked over at rocky and alex to see they were in the same position as us. Alex picked up her phone and waved it at me, implying that i should check mine. I slid it out of my pocket, and clicked the lock button making my screen light up. 1 New Message - Alex i clicked open and quickly read it me and rocky are going upstairs keep riker down here pls i grimaced at knowing what they were about to do, laughing at how this time four months ago they did the exact same thing and ended up in this predicament. 

I moved out of rikers arms and sat up causing him to look at me, "i'm going home for a bit, come with me?" i asked him quietly as he nodded, "Sure but let me grab my clothes for tonight so we can go straight from yours, kay?" "yeah sure" i smiled as he got up and ran up the stairs as Alex came to sit next to me. "Thank you so much, Rocky's a bit frustrated, if you know what i mean. We havent been alone in ages, hopefully know he'll stop being so cranky" Alex laughed, "I didn't need to know that" i laughed, pulling a funny face. "I'd say 'stay safe, use a condom' but i don't think that applies to you two anymore" i joked, resulting in her punching my arm. 

I stood up as riker ran back down the stairs, "You ready?" he asked me, clearly eager to get going yet unaware of what his younger brother was about to engage in. "yeh, have fun lex" i winked at her, resulting in her throwing a pillow in my direction.
