NOTE: The schooling term in my story starts on January 2nd. So currently, they are starting their mid-year holidays, which is from May to June. The holiday is one month long.
Falling in love with my husband- chapter 1
" Are you really going to leave me alone and disappear for the entire mid-year holidays PLUS another 2 weeks??" my best friend Judy Brookes asked me, as we were having lunch in our school cafeteria during our break.
“I’m really sorry about it Joo, but I have to go visit my grandma. I promised her that I would spend my summer holidays with her. And she really wants me to celebrate my 18th birthday with her. It will be a waste of time for me to travel back and forth. So my mum decided that I can skip school for two weeks when school reopens, and stay with my grandma. It just stinks that the venue she wants to have my birthday party is booked on my birthday. So we have to wait two more weeks to celebrate it. This 18th birthday party thing is just a lot of trouble," I replied, feeling bad that I would have to leave her alone here.
It's not that we were social outcasts and didn't have friends to hang out with. Actually, we were considered one of the popular girls in school. But we have been very close friends since pre-school, and have never been apart for more than two weeks. That was only because she had chicken pox and our mothers had insisted that I don't go anywhere near her. We were practically sisters and spent our entire life together. So it is very upsetting for us that we have to be separated for almost 2 months.
“Yeah. I know. And I'm sorry that I can't follow you as well, Cassy. I need to do more community service to boost my credentials. Unlike you, I don't have straight A's to get me to a university, Ms Smarty pants," she pouted.
“Awww, don’t be jealous of my very incredibly smart pants, that sadly can’t get me an A for math. And its ok, these 6 weeks will be over very soon, and we will be inseparable after that.”
“I really hope so. Aniways, I gotta go get my things from the locker. I’ll see you at last period! Bye girl!”
“Bye Joo.”
I’m really going to miss her. But at least I will be having fun with my grandma near the beach. Living in a busy town that was fast progressing to become a city area definitely has its setbacks. All you have are tall buildings. And the only place you get to swim is the swimming pool. At least we still have normal houses instead of apartment buildings all over the place. There are apartments, but not as much as the houses.
The school bell rang, indicating the end of lunch. I grudgingly carried my bag and walked to my land of doom, Math class. Sometimes I got jealous of Judy that she managed to get into art class. Our school had this “rule” that only those who did well at the arts subjects can take them at senior year. Let’s just say that when I draw a dog, people think that it is a horse with a physical defect. And so, I was stuck with Math as my mum thought it will be good for applying to a university. My honest opinion was that the subject is hell and nightmare mixed together.
“Good afternoon Mrs Jones” I greeted the teacher as I entered the class and sat at my seat. Mrs Jones was a very nice teacher, and always encouraged me not to give up on math. If not for her, I would have left this class in the first week. She was not very young, but she understood her students well. She looked a little like my grandma, and even had the same first name as her: Elizabeth.
Math lesson was over, FINALLY, and it was time for the final lesson of the day, Biology. Unlike math, I absolutely adored this subject, and did very well in it. Judy was also in this class, and also had great interest in it. Not because of the subject, but because of the teacher. She had a major crush on the teacher, Mr Evans. She would go on and on about how wonderful his hair was, how adorable his lips were, and how perfect his eyes were. Maybe I got the adjectives mixed up, but you get the idea.
