this is the better one even though its a little long

A chapter from the book world so cold

It was a cold morning in ThunderClan, and the only thing Wildshadow wanted was to go back to camp to be with Heathersky and their kits. He'd been out hunting all morning.

They had recently gotten sick with something Bluefeather called yellowcough based the yellow mucus you would cough up. So far, Bluefeather hadn't found a cure. None of her herbs were working. And the lack of prey during this leaf bare hasn't helped.

As soon as Wildshadow dropped off his vole at the fresh kill pile he headed to the medicine den where he saw his mate and kits.

"How are you feeling, Heathersky?"
"I'm doing ok..." She rasped between coughs, but he knew she wasn't getting better, the kits were asleep beside there mother wheezing and fidgeting.

Wildshadow padded towards Bluefeather who looked scared.
"I don't know what to do! I've never seen anything like this. I've given them everything in the den, but it's all useless for this. The only reason the kits sleep are with poppy seed, or else they would stay awake coughing."

"Are you sure you've used every thing?" asked Wildshadow.
"I'll keep trying, but you need to get some sleep or you won't be any help to anyone," she sighed.

No matter how much he hated, it he knew she was right. He left her, headed to his empty nest in the warriors den.

"Wildshadow wake up!" hissed a voice.
"What?" Wildshadow looked up and saw Bluefeather stared at him with fear in her eyes.
"Come with me now!"
Wildshadow didn't ask why. He didn't have to. He followed her to the medicine den where Heathersky lay breathing laboriously.

"The ancient medicine cat, Yellowfang, told me in a vision how to cure this sickness. She said I needed a plant called rootweed that grew by the lake.
"That's great! Will they be ok now?" Wildshadow asked excitedly, paws working at his mate's nest.
"That's the thing. When I got to the lake, they were all withered and frozen except one..." Bluefeather mewed, trailing off. "There was only enough for the kits or Heathersky. "

Wildshadow looked at his mate and she looked at him, sorrow in her eyes.
"There has to be another way!" He begged
"I'm sorry" she said "There's only one dose, and she's given it to the kits"

Wildshadow already guessed. Turning, he lay next to his mate.
"I knew you were too selfless for your own good." He joked half-heartedly
"Wildshadow...." Her voice was hardly a whisper now. "I've always loved you."
"And I've always loved you." Wildshadow whispered, his eyes clouding with grief. Why did life have to be so cruel?
"Don't be sad. I'll always be watching over you and our kits. I've always known you were brave," she said and after a few more raspy breaths her grey fur stayed still.

The next morning, the clan buried Heathersky.
Drizzleheart told Wildshadow that she would be more than happy to care for the kits when they were better.
As Wildshadow stood were the clan buried his mate, he stared sadly at the mound of dirt that covered his mate. He screeched his grief and anger because of how unfair it was that he lost her. Eventually, he heard paw steps behind him and saw Bluefeather walking towards him with a leaf full of poppy seeds and chamomile.

"Eat these, they will help you sleep and ease your pain." Her eyes filled with guilt and sympathy "I'm sorry I should've tried harder...."

"I Dont blame you, Bluefeather you did the best you could," Wildshadow mewed hoarsely, still staring at the mound of dirt.

Bluefeather dropped the leaf wrap at his paws and started to pad away. Eventually, he ate the herbs.
Soon Wildshadow was consumed by a blanket of echaustion, falling asleep. He heard a voice.
Wildshadow woke up to complete darkness and then he heard a voice.
"Hello, Wildshadow."
"Darkstripe! You fox heart, I thought I rejected your training moons ago!"
"I told you that I could make you strong, but no, you rejected me. Now look how weak you are, crying for the death of your poor pretty mate." Darkstripe gloated, purring.
"How dare you!" Wildshadow yelled, leaping at Darkstripe with rage burning deep in his belly.
Darkstripe jumped back "Too bad your pathetic StarClan couldn't save your mate," he sneered, pouncing at his former apprentice.
Unprepared, the young tom was knocked over and Darkstripe was soon on top of him unleashing vicious blow upon blow.
"StarClan help me!" Wildshadow begged.
"Where are they now?" sneered Darkstripe as he flung Wildshadow to the ground.

"StarClan left you and your pathetic clan. No one can help you weaklings now. He said as he padded into the mist of the Dark Forest.

Wildshadow woke up tasting blood in his mouth, covered in blood from the fight. Wildshadow looked up into the sky.
"Have StarClan really left us?"
