Part 1/2

I was mesmerised by the humongous mansion. Its history probably went back to almost about a century ago. Thick vines adorned the house from the roof to the ground that I could barely make out the structure of the house. The edge of the roof looked a mixture of a few hues of red and yellow.

The sun had barely risen as I took my first step into the house with my new family. I had great hopes for a happy life, contrary to the cramped, smelly place known as the shelter, in which I had gone on an empty stomach for many days. As far as I can remember, I had always lived there. The people there were greedy and sadistic. All they cared about was their hungry stomachs , as if they weren't fat enough, and their pay. If they could get a hundred dollars out of killing one of us, they wouldn't even think twice. Wait, they wouldn't even think once. Ha!

When the family came to adopt me, I was more scared. Were these people worse?

Just as I was about to lose hope, the woman took me into her arms and hugged me- and that was the moment I knew, that they were different. In fact the opposite of cruelty. They showed that humanity still existed in the human race which allowed to see the world from a new, positive point of view.

I went inside the house, just to be hit with a gust of dust making my little eyes water. I blinked a few times to remove the dust as I continued my way in. However, all I was met with, was a room as dark as a moonless night.

The kind one who adopted me- Mr Mark, went inside and looked for the light switch to find none. I guess that's what you get when some distant relative wills you an abandoned house!

He rummaged through his stuffed backpack to find a small metallic blue flashlight. He turned it on making the room only slightly brighter. He manoeuvred his way through the dusty furniture filled the house and opened up the forever untouched curtains. In a second or two, a ray of light seeped through the frosted glass window brightening the room. It looked as dull as a concrete tile. There wasn't even a single picture, a clock or anything that could be outstandingly seen in the walls. It was a dark mahogany brown with silver flowers, and which every single one seemed like it was looking at you.

His kids who had ventured around the house were now fighting on who got which room. I followed Paula- who was the youngest and the one I was most attached to- into the attic. It had this dangerous look to it as if saying don't trespass. I could feel someone piercing gaze on me but I just couldn't find out who. I looked at Paula and she sighed and started to unpack.

She had a cute smile which always played on her lips and every time she laughed, those dimples would send one into a daze. Only when you get to know her you will understand that she is no darling. She can be fierce when she wants to be. She was courageous and brave, and that is the only reason why she chose the attic when the others would gladly give it up.

Now unlike her, I definitely did not have the guts to stay in the attic, at least not alone. If the house wasn't bad enough, the attic was ten times worse.

Cobwebs filled every nook and corner. Insects ran towards the closest shadow so that they won't be caught by us. A gust of wind passed... but the windows were locked...and we were nowhere near a source of wind.

Turning around, I saw that it was only Paula's hand fan. 'Phew,' I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding that long.

Since I was tired, bored and didn't need to unpack, I decided to take a nap. After quite some time, when I was deep asleep, she woke me up telling me that it was time for lunch.

That was just the words I needed to hear. I rushed down the stairs running as fast as my little paws could take me. I entered the kitchen and slurped the milk within seconds.

'Freeze'

It was a light hissing whisper but I think I was the only one who heard it. Since the windows were open, I thought that it was just the wind and tried to lift up my leg but... tried is the keyword here. I could not move my eyes or legs. I was stuck.

I suddenly felt dizzy. I could not concentrate. I was feeling sleepy. Yeah...

A nap sounds Good ...

And ... I ... Slept

And ... Went ... Into ... A ... Deep ... Deep ... Sleep

And ... And ... I ... Don't ... Think ... I Want ... To ... Wake ... Up ... Any ... Time ... Soon

Mark's POV

"Hey, what happened to the dog?"
He was just standing up and not moving. I went close to him and tried to pick him up. I am not too sure if my eyes deceived me, but I swear I just saw his eye colour change, to a deep dark brown, the colour of the eyes of someone who I had not seen in sometime. And just for that second, I saw a faint smirk and heard the word REVENGE.

A few hours later

Dear Auburn,

I am very sorry that you had to hear the truth like this. I know that it's hard for you and I would like you to know that I am very sorry that I did not warn you earlier. I shall fully possess your husband and make him suffer for everything he has done. The children will wake up from the coma in a few days so don't worry about that. You know what happened to Mary, yea that's her name. Does it ring a bell? He knew it all along and he didn't care. He was selfish in that way. Wait, no - he is selfish in every way. In a few days, you will not remember any of the past events as another person will take his place and you will just know that you have lived your happily ever after like you've always dreamed about. You won't even know he existed. But he will suffer, mark my word - every single day and unfortunately for him, he will not die either. I am not too sure if I have gone too far, but this is what I need to do to rest in peace - both me and Mary. Lead your life happily and both the both of us wish you the best of luck.

Love,

Your Best Friend,

Andrew
