Chapter Sixteen

[June 5th, 2016]

A month has passed since Sabine visited Bridgette. Bridgette's sentencing trial is just around the corner. Marietta is at her aunt, Tina's house.

Tina: You know, the sentencing trial is in four days right?

Marietta looked at Tina and nodded.

Tina: You nervous?

Marietta: A little.

Tina: Don't worry, you'll be fine.

Marietta smiled at Tina.

Four days later, Marietta got ready for the trial. Alya came along and Nino. Adrien asked his father if he could go to support his friend, and to his surprise he said yes!

But he does have to make up some of his photoshoots. Marietta arrived in the court along with Sabine, Tom, Tina, Alya, Nino, and Adrien.

They took thier seats at the front. Some polices bring Bridgette in who was in handcuffs. Judge Raymond took his seat.

Judge Raymond: Please rise!

Everyone stood up.

Judge Raymond: We are here because of a kidnapping, is that correct?

Detective Morris: Yes it is sir.

Judge Raymond: What kidnapping?

Detective Morris: The kidnapping of Marietta Thomas Dupain. 12 years ago in Albee Central supermarket in New Haven she was snatched.

Judge Raymond: Who is responsible?

Detective Morris: It is believed to be Bridgette Cheng.

Judge Raymond: Thank you. Where is Marietta Dupain?

Marietta: Here your honor.

Judge Raymond: May you please come to the front Marietta Dupain.

Marietta went to the front and took a seat next to the judge.

Judge Raymond: Thank you Marietta, or should I call you Marinette or Nette?

Marietta looked down to process what the judge said. She looked up and sighed in determination.

Marietta: My name's not Marinette. That was the name that was forced on me.

She looked at her "family" she grew up with.

Marietta: My name's not Marietta. That was the name that was taken from me.

She looked at her biological family, who she was taken from at an early age.

Marietta: My name's not Nette. That was the name given to me by my "family". My name's Mari. That's the name that was given to me by my friends.

She looked at Alya, Nino, and Adrien and smiled. They smiled back at her.

Marietta: Thats the name that feels more like home.

Judge Raymond smiled at the teen's wise words.

Judge Raymond: Thank you. I guess I have no more words to ask you.

Marietta got up and went back to her original seat.

As Judge Raymond was talking, Bridgette looked down. She realized that Marietta was never her little girl. She was never hers. She never belonged to her. She made a decision. She was gonna confess.

Bridgette: I'll like to make a confession!

Judge Raymond smiled and allowed Bridgette to take the seat at the very front, the one Marietta was in. Bridgette took a deep breath and began to confess.

Bridgette: On March 5th, 2004 I went into Albee Central supermarket. I took a child from an isle. I went on the train, I went home...and I raised her as my own. I raised her as my own daughter for 12 years. I knew it was wrong, but I was desperate.

Sabine looked down and fought the tears from falling down. She knew she heard Bridgette confess before, but hearing it again really hurt her.

15 minutes later, the judge had decided on the sentencing.

Judge Raymond: All rise!

Everyone stood up.

Judge Raymond: Bridgette Cheng for you're brave confession the court here by sentence you to 10 years in prison for one count, kidnapping.

He banged his gravel. The police took her away. Marietta cried into Adrien's arms. Tik was mad.

Outside he spoke with Sabine.

Tom: Thats it? Just 10 years?

Sabine: We just have to live with it.

Tom: I lost my daughter. She needs to pay.

Sabine: Like I said, we just need to live with it. Marietta's not gone, she was never gone. She was always in our hearts and she's still is.

Meanwhile, the four teens were having a similar talk.

Alya: Wow, 10 years?

Nino: Dude, thats cruel.

Adrien: I'm sorry again Mari.

Marietta: Its okay. I didn't like it either. But she deserves this.
