Anna's P.O.V.
Zack held my hand as we walked into restaurant. Zack had picked out a fancy place so I'd had to borrow one of Jackie's dresses. She'd had a fit over me wanting to wear my combat boots and had forced me to wear her knee high heeled boots.
"Jackie sure likes dressing you in her old clothes." Zack said. "I'm not complaining either."
I blushed and took another step. I tugged at the bottom of the dress she had giving me. The dress had a sweetheart neck line and was tightly fitted to just below my bust. The rest of it was loose and following to about my mid-thigh. The part that was tight was leather and the hem was done with dull silver studs. Of course the dress was black and went perfectly with the boots and fishnet tights.
Zack was decked out in nice, unripped, black skinny jeans and a black dress shirt. The waitress sat us down and gave us the menu. We were looking through it when someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around and saw a twelve year old girl.
"Are those cuts on your arm?" She asked. I looked at my arm and realized I hadn't worn my gloves.
"Um...yeah why?" I answered. She bore her arm and showed me her scars.
"My mom says they're the marks of an angel. My sister and I are angels, except my sister went back to heaven. My mom said I need to stop and that I'll find my way back to heaven and that I don't need to hurt myself anymore. You don't need to anymore either. My mom says we should look at all the happiness we have not the things that break our wings." The girl said.
"Your mom is pretty smart, but I don't think I'm an angel." I said.
"No you are. 'Cause angels can never see their wings until they find the strength to fly above everything." She smiled.
"Is your mom here with you?" I asked as I tried to blink back tears. The girl shook her head.
"No, she's almost back to heaven. 'Cause she had cancer." The girl said. She then walked away. She joined an older couple before leaving the restaurant. I looked over at Zack.
"I'll just be a minute. I have to go fix my make-up." I said. Zack nodded and took my hand before I stood up.
"I think that girl is right, you're an angel." He said. I gave him a smile and got up, then I went into the restroom to wipe my eyes.
"I think she's the angel." I whispered to myself. I stopped crying and made sure to fix my running mascara.
I went back out and Zack and I ordered our food. I decided I was going to smile for the rest of the day.
Jackie's P.O.V.
I hugged Ben's mom and left. I'd decided to visit them before visiting Ben's grave. I drove Dad's car to the cemetery. When I stood in front of Ben's grave I sat down. I leaned on the side of the gravestone like it was Ben.
"Zack's got a new girlfriend. You'd like her, she's got the hair like fire and she has a more messed up life than you.
Her dad put her mom in a coma. Then he kept on abusing her and finally kicked her out. We took her in then some creep kidnapped her and did you know what with her. But what I've noticed is Zack has almost been happier. I mean after you died I didn't see him smile for months, even then they weren't the kind you know the person is feeling, he didn't smile for happiness until he met her, which is really odd since they met while both getting bullied. Then they both got suspended and he was helping her run away.
Ben, it's crazy, for once I wish you weren't here so you don't have to be as confused as I am." I looked at my lap.
"Zack doesn't talk about that night anymore. Then again he never did talk about it. As far as he makes it out to be, you died in that school bathroom stall, with your face stuck in a toilet. I miss you. He makes me keep secrets from everyone, you and I both know I'm not good at keeping secrets. You never made me keep anything a secret. You only didn't tell Zack about us because we were both worried how he'd take it." I could feel hot tears stinging my cheeks.
"I look around and I see everyone is moving on but me. I'm the only one who still comes here to visit you. Your mom has a knew boyfriend and he's really nice. He treats her with respect. Your dad is in rehab, he hasn't slipped up on the drugs at all. Your older brother just welcomed a little boy into his family. He calls him Jacob Ben Malcon. Zack has Anna. My parents are starting to not bring you up as much, everyone is slowly forgetting about you. I'm the only one who hasn't moved on." I finally let myself stop carrying. I just snapped and stood up.
"Bye Ben. They won't forget you so soon." I said and stomped to the place that had changed my life. I dialed Zack's number and waited for him to pick up.
"Hey, whats up?" Zack asked.
"Meet me where we lost him." I said. "And bring Anna."
"Um... Okay, I'll see you there. " He said and hung up. I started looking through the things I had hidden there. I pulled out the gun and pills. I opened up the bottle and popped a few in my mouth. I swallowed and made sure the gun was loaded. Now I just waited for Zack and Anna.
Zack's P.O.V.
We were just leaving the restaurant when my phone rang. I picked up.
"Hey, whats up?" I asked knowing it was Jackie.
"Meet me where we lost him. And bring Anna." She said and her voice seemed off. I could tell she had been crying.
"Um... Okay, I'll see you there." I said and hung up as I climbed into my mom's truck. Anna climbed in just as fast as me. She just slammed the door shut as I started moving. I raced to the lakeside where I'd seen my best friend die.
"Zack, whats wrong?" Anna asked. I didn't look at her as I pressed down on the gas pedal.
"Something's up with Jackie. We have to get there before she tries anything." I said.
When we got to the lake I didn't shut off the car. I ran through the trees to where we used to hang out. Jackie sat on a log and I barely noticed anything but her.
"Jackie?" I said. She didn't bother to turn around until I was right behind her. She darted up and stood a few feet away. That was when I noticed the gun.
"Jackie put down the gun." I said. She wiped away some tears and shook her head. Anna touched my arm.
"Zack look at the pill bottle." She said. My eyes flickered and I saw the bottle sitting there with pills spilling out.
"Jackie, please tell me you didn't take any of those." I said as tears threatened to pour out of my eyes.
"No. I took the same amount as Ben." She said. I froze that was enough to kill her. When had my baby sister become so sad? Why hadn't I been there for her?
"I can't stand this anymore. I want it back, I want the mini skirts and fishnets, with my black lipstick. I want Ben by my side again. I want him to sneak out with me one more time. I want it all back. But the only way for that to happen is to end what little is left." She said. She raised the gun up to her head.
"Jackie, don't!" I screamed.
