The Beginning of the End

"Run!"

That was the last thing I heard before I felt the piercing pain in my side.  I hit the ground and everything around me spun, like the ground was a spin-top toy I played with when I was younger.  You know the ones where you hold them above the floor or table and spin them and watch as they spin out of control till they slow down and crash? That's what my world felt like right now.

"Damn it Jules, I said run! "

He knew I never would, never could.  Who in their right mind leaves their heart in a hostage situation? I drug myself up off the ground,  the pain blossoming throughout my stomach, side, and chest. There was blood everywhere, probably mine. I refused to look down once my feet were under me,  he could be my only focus right now.

"What're you doing?!"

He sounds exasperated, but then again I am a pretty exasperating person. I forced myself across the room, dragging my feet as if I was walking through concrete the whole way. It felt like an eternity, but in all reality it couldn't of been more than a couple minutes. I didn't hurt anymore once I got to him, but it finally dawned on me that I was most likely slowly dying from blood loss, if that was in fact my blood painting the floor, my clothes, my skin. I finally felt my side and when I looked at my hand, sure enough it was scarlet. Funny how I couldn't care less.

"Jules, you need to find help before you lose too much blood!"

I met his eyes for the fierce. He looked worried, panicked, upset, but also hopeful. That hope is the very reason I'm here.

"I'm getting you out of here Cody," I mumbled while trying to untie the leather straps holding him to the chair.

I signed, frustrated because my fingers were sluggish, like my brain didn't want to let them move. I knew in a small part of my mind that it was the blood loss but honestly? No part of me cared.

"I swear Juliette if we make it out of here alive..." He seems so upset.

I finally got his bonds undone as we both heard fire crackling in the hall outside. I smiled at him weakly as he jumped up and grabbed my hand, lifting my shirt to check my side.  I just smiled, exhausted.  I heard him gasp a bit.  My side must be pretty bad but he's just too cute.

"You're adorable," I leaned up and kissed his cheek,  but then everything went dark.

"Jules!"

I couldn't feel anything, everything was black, but I was semi-aware. Finally, I forced my eyes open a fraction of an inch and I saw him holding me to his chest on the floor.

"Juliette please I love you, you have to stay with me!"

He's crying. Why is he crying? My big tough Cody never cries. I love him too,  but my mouth wouldn't make the words. His bright green eyes looked so sad, but so beautiful. They were the last thing I saw as the darkness took me along with one word....

  "Juliette."
