Heartbroken

unknown: Hey this is Cathrine right?

Me: Yeah. Who is this?

unknown: Oh sorry. It's Aron.

Me: Hi. What's up?

Aron: Well.... I wanted to ask you something.

Me: What?

Aron: Would you like to go to the dance with me? And maybe go out with me?

Me: ...umm... I'm sorry.... but I don't feel the same way so... I'm sorry but no.

Aron: oh. Ok... that's ok.

That's when I realized that Jacob might have been wanting to ask me out, but what he was actually talking about before was Aron wanting to ask me out. I felt horrible rejecting him but I knew that if there was any hope in Jacob asking me out that I had to reject him.

Later that day my friends Lily, Sarah, and Luna came over and we baked cookies while my mom and dad were at work.
"So I got a text from Aron today." I tried to bring it up casually since I know that Sarah can become... excitable.
"Really what was he saying?" Sarah asked her curiosity peaking.
"This has got to be interesting." Lily said sarcastically.
"He asked me out." I replied glaring at lily. The shocked faces on my friends and especially on lily's face showed that they had not expected that.
"What did you say?!?!" Sarah asked eyes wide with excitement.
"Well I said... no." I replied looking down at my hands.
"Why didn't you say yes?" Luna asked softly.
"It's just that I know that if I date someone else then that would throw away the chance of me dating Jacob. But now I think I have enough courage to ask him to the dance so that's what I'm going to do." Just thinking about why I said no restored my confidence. We talked, messed around, and baked for the rest of the day. 

On monday I decided that I would ask if Jacob could meet me at lunch near rose bushes. As soon as he got there and saw me his soft eyes became an icy glare. I flinched feeling the new hatred. Even though this made me want to run I had promised my friends that I wouldn't back out of this. 

"What is it?" The sharpness to his tone made me flinch. I sighed.

"I was wondering.... even though I think I know the answer.... If you would maybe go to the dance with me?" His eyes narrowed burning with the new inferno of hatred.

"You would even think about asking me after you rejected my friend in such a terrible way?!?!" he burst spittle flying as he yelled at me. My eyes filled with confusion which made him even more furious. 

"You act so innocent even though I know that when you asked you at you beat him up." He screeched. People passing stopped and stared with their prying eyes.

"I he asked me over text I didn't even touch him." I said timidly tears forming in my eyes.

"Don't lie! When he told me what you said I noticed that his arms and legs were covered in scratches!" With those words I ran off afraid and alone. I kept running until I got to my favorite place on the whole campus, the bridge. I always sit under to when I need some time alone to sort through thoughts. There is a river that runs through our small school grounds. I watched the crystal water flow like my heart bleeding from its recent wound. lost in thought I didn't hear it when someone had walked up behind me. A gentle hand rested on my shoulder I pulled away startled and looked up my face still stained with my tears. I saw Luna sitting next to me eyes filled with worry.

"I heard what happened and I know that you wouldn't actually do that to Aron. Sarah does though... I'm sorry." her eyes filled with kindness and her hand on my shoulder soothed me and comforted me. She pulled me into a gentle but secure hug. I sobbed into the soft fabric covering her shoulder.
