"I can't believe you're doing this to me, again!" I screamed into my mum's face, "You know I just settled in here and now you're taking me away!"
My life is a roller coaster. One moment it's up and the next it's down.
I had grown up in a small town and had lived there until I was 15 then mum got a new job, we moved and I have lived here ever since. Now I'm 16. It took me a long time to find my feet and make friends but once I did, I have really enjoyed my new home.
Alexander, my twin sister, never really minded. She's easy going and care free and made friends really easily. Unfortunately, my bubble had burst and now mum was deciding to pack us up again and take us to the city, which apparently had better pay and a bigger and better house. Well, she couldn't do this to me and I couldn't let go of this new life. At least, not without a fight.
"Charlotte... are you all right sweetheart?" I had zoned out. Did I forget to mention I have a short attention span?
I felt heat rise up my face. I knew I was going red. I've always been embarrassed when I zoned out. Now was no time for embarrassment though. It was time for justice!
"How could you mum, you know I don't want to move. Why are you doing this to me!""Charlie, you know I wouldn't be taking you away if it wasn't for a good reason, I love you. And anyway darling, it will be good for us. You'll make lots of new friends! It'll be great. You'll s-" I stopped my mum in her tracks. I didn't want to hear anymore. I'd heard enough already.
"Mum, once again you're thinking about yourself. When you say it will be good for us, you mean it will be good for you. Not us! You! I'm going to my room now."
I stormed away and ran upstairs. Just as I headed to my room, I caught a glimpse of my mum's shocked expression. I went inside, slamming the door behind me and jumped on top of my bed before the waterworks started. In my state, I had failed to see Alex slumped on her desk with her head deep in homework.
"Geez Charlie, you couldn't have made more noise if you were a herd of elephants!" she muttered, just loud enough for me to hear over my sobs."What's wrong anyway?"
I looked up and gave her a look. She instantly knew what it was and gave me sympathetic eyes. I smiled as I stared at her and noted how we looked exactly the same- petite nose, rounded hazel eyes, cherry lips, pale skin-we were like a mirror image, the only difference was that her light brown hair was short while mine was waste length. That was the only way you could tell us apart. Before her haircut people were always getting our names mixed up.
Whilst I had been day dreaming, Alex had already made her way towards me and was holding my hand with a comforting smile on her face. I pushed her towards me and we hugged.***
My favourite place in the world is the forest at the back of our house. Here I like to take a stroll and clear my head. The tranquillity of the forest helps me to work things out in silence and although there is the occasional rustle I know it's just animals so I shouldn't feel freaked out. I'm the intruder in their home. You may think, isn't that a bit creepy, living right next to a forest, aren't I scared? The answer to is no. I've never been scared. I guess it just came naturally to me.Returning back from my stroll, I hear mum on the phone in the kitchen. I had planned to go straight upstairs but the conversation sparked my interest. Yeah, I know I shouldn't be nosy but I did it anyway. Sew me. I leaned against the closed kitchen door.
"James, I've told you so many times before and I will tell you many more times. I don't need your help. I don't need anybody's help!"
I couldn't hear the other end because it wasn't on loud speaker but after a few seconds passed, mum replied, " Look, I know they've found us again, that's why we're moving. But I can't keep living like this... I just-"
Right at that moment, Alex came thundering downstairs and mum abruptly ended the call with a hushed, "I've got to go."
She came out of the kitchen, smiling and seemingly without a care in the world and said, "Right gang, what do you want for dinner? I feel like having a piece of meat feast, what do you guys think?"That night I went to bed with so many questions unanswered. As I twisted and turned in my bed, I decided I had to find out...
