"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you, Hope! Happy birthday to you!" It was exactly the third of September. The day i was born, only it was five years ago. All around me were the people I loved the most. My parents, my siblings, my friends and my best friend. I was the happiest child alive!

"Blow the candles Hope! Go on! I want cake!" It was my five year old birthday. The year before things started to change. My best friend, Sakura, was bouncing with joy. It wasn't because of my birthday. Well, it was but then it wasn't. It was because of the cake.

Sakura loved cake more than anything. Obviously not more than she loves me and her family, but you know what I mean. As I blew out the candles, I made a wish so quiet, no one heard me. I wished for my happiness to last forever.

But I obviously wasn't told that wishes don't come true...sometimes.

The year after that, it was exactly a few days till my sixth birthday. I was overjoy as my parents said I could throw another party, and go to to Disneyland. To say that I was only happy was an understatement. I was over the moon! I began to plan and pack for my journey. Boy was I excited.

(A/N: Sorry if I keep changing to a third person perspective. The rest of this chapter is in third person)

5 days to go.

She had already finished packing and is now with her mother downstairs watching T.V whilst her father was at work. Her father had began to work late nowadays. Hope never let it bother her, but it bothered her mother. Whenever her father was at home, she would hear arguments coming from their room. She wouldn't sleep till it was over. It never was. After the arguing had settled down, her father would leave again and never come back until the next morning. Her mother, on the other hand, wept till she was tired. Hope would always be the one to comfort her as she laid crying.

4 days to go

Hope began to get really impatient. There are times where she would start counting down the exact days, hours, minutes and seconds left until that very day. Sometimes her mother would laugh, sometimes she wouldn't as it grew annoying by the day.

"Hope dear, you don't need to do that." Her mother complained as she sipped her cup of black tea. "I know mum but I just can't wait! Its my birthday soon. And Sakura said she's giving me a BIG present." Hope squealed jumping in delight. But all her happiness soon vanished when her father stormed into the house.

"WHERE IS THE FUCKING FOOD?!" He shouted slamming the front door shut, scaring both Hope and her mother. "I-im o-ordering pizza f-for us." Her mother stuttered, her palms sweaty with fear, sweat rolling down her forehead, as she began to order for their pizzas. What had she done to deserve this?

"Well then hurry you little bitch! I just got back from work. Don't annoy me any further!"

Hope had always been scared of her father. Before he became like this, it was like she knew he had a few issues before he even showed it to her. She slowly walked towards her dad who stood by the door on the phone to who she assumed was his new fling.

"Welcome back dad."

Before she could even think or see whay had just happened, she was being thrown to the ground by her father. Hope's eyes went from sadness to fear. It was then that she developed a fear for the man she called her father.

He slowly made his way towards her, leaning down close so that they were both at eye level. "You're just as useless as your mother. Don't call me father ever again. I will not be the father of the daughter of a whore." She was frightened. She wanted to do something, but what? He moved his big, rough and dirty hands towards her head and slowly stroked her hair.

She flinched at the contact which only made him smirk happily. "Yes that's right. You're mother is a whore and that makes you one as well."

Before he could say anything else, she told him firmly. "But you're the one that's been sleeping with other women behind mum's back! You have no right to spe-"

He gave her a punch to the head, causing Hope to cry whilst he screamed, "YOU LITTLE BITCH! I SHOULD'VE TOLD HER TO ABORT YOU WHILST WE HAD THE CHANCE TO! ITS ALL YOUR FAULT!" He kept punching repeatedly. Hopes mother soon came after hearing the cries of her child. "NO! LEAVE HER ALONE!" She cried running over to protect Hope. She shielded Hope with her body which only made her father to grow angrier.

He gave one last punch but this time of wasnt for Hope but for her mother. After the punch, he left the house aggressively. "Hope! Please baby stay with me!" With tears forming in her mothers eyes, she reached into her pockets for her phone calling the ambulance. After explaining what had happened to the ambulance, she began to stroke Hopes cheeks crying.

Hope's POV

Silence. More silence. Was this what it felt like to be dead? To be in heaven? Oh mum am sorry for leaving you alone. Please look after yourself. I'll miss you. I love you mum.

"Please wake up princess. I miss you." That voice. It belonged to my mother, so that means I'm not dead yet. I tried to move my body but it hurts even if I flick my finger. Slowly opening my eyes with a groan, I turned my head slowly to look at my mum. "Hope! Oh darling, I'm so sorry. I promise this will be the end of it." My mother sobbed as she hugged me. I began to stroke her head gently smiling at her. "There there mum, it's okay. He'll have to do more than that to get rid of me." I could feel a smile growing on my face. At that statement, my mother began to chuckle as she pulled away to look at me.

"You're really are my little drop of hope."

I couldn't hold in the tears that decided to spill from my eyes as she told me that. I'm lucky to have at least one parent who loves me. I know other don't even one, but I know that somewhere out there is someone who is willing to take them in and look after them like an actual parent would.

After a talk with the doctor, mum decided it was time to go. To tell you the truth, I was shaking in all places because I didn't want to go back to that place I call my home. I knew mum was frightened but she put on her brace face just for me. "Don't worry Hope, we won't be going back to that house soon."

That was the day that I knew things were going to start changing for me and for my mum.
