She heard a rustling in the trees above. She would not look up. She would not look up. You do not look up in the forest at night. You do not go into the forest at night. It was really stupid of her to go into the forest at all. Things lived there. Terrible, terrible things.

She felt the light snow settle in the gap between her coat and her scarf. It was right above her. She could feel its icy breath on her neck. She would not look up. It growled in her ear, and she could hear its movements on the fresh snow. She would not look up. She shut her eyes tightly, her fingernails biting into clenched fists.

The creature moved away. He would get no prey here. She heard it as it slinked away. She looked up and gave a deep sigh. She shouldn't have looked up.
