People come and go in our lives. There are some we don’t even remember. There are some who comes into our lives and leaves a permanent mark. A scar in our hearts that time cannot erase. It’s there to remind us of the past with a flowing rush of vivid memories. Memories that you cannot stand to reminisce about. No amount of effort in trying to forget can really remove that scar. It’s always there lingering.

I am one of the people who have a scar like that. I used to know a guy who completely took my breath away. Yet he left as quickly as he came. Chase was really something. He’s a guy with a great smile that comes with a good personality. He looks at you and it feels like he’s looking deep inside of you. He cares a lot about me before he moved away and changed to a total stranger. We had a pretty good relationship. It’s too bad it couldn’t last. We shared so many good memories and we could have created more. If only he didn’t….

“Hello? Earth to Jess? I’m talking over here!”

I snapped back to focus at my friend, Cammie.

“Sorry Cam, I was spacing out.” I said.

Cam gave me this questioning look.

“Okay Jess, I know you’re thinking about him again. What gives? It’s been a year and a half. I thought you’re over him!” Cam said with this really worried look that makes me laugh.

“You know you shouldn’t worry so much about me. Your wrinkles are showing.” I giggled.

“Jess! I’m serious!”

I sighed. “I too am serious! I am over him.”

Cammie rolled her eyes. “Whatever you say Jess.”

I can’t help it. The memories just come unexpectedly and I hate it because they are so vivid. It’s like he didn’t leave. I played with the discussing gruel on my plate. Seriously, this is what we’re having for lunch? The school definitely needs to have decent lunch menus.

“Okay so we really need to go shopping for the Kristy’s party. We’re one of the lucky juniors who got invited so we need to look hot. After school, let’s hit the mall” Cam said excitedly.

I looked at her apologetically. “I’m sorry. I have stuff to do later. Let’s do it next time.”

“The party is this Friday! We only got three days to get the perfect outfit!”  Cam argued.

“Sorry, I need to do something later.” I half smiled at Cam.

“Whatever. You owe me Jess. You better at least try to hook up with somebody at the party.” Cam said as she gulped down the last of her food

“Let’s go. We might be late.” I grab Cam’s hand and lead her away from the cafeteria.

The day went on pretty fast and uneventful. I left school and walked myself home. Every now and then my thoughts go back to Chase. I wonder how he’s doing now. Does he still remember me? I know he doesn’t because he would have at least talked to me or texted me once. He did say we could be friends.

I finally arrive at home and I go straight to my room. My parents are rarely around since they work in this big law firm company. I don’t really mind being alone.

I lied to Cam. I didn’t really have anything to do. I just want to be by myself today. I grab my iPod and my headphones and play some music on shuffle. I lay down on my bed and close my eyes letting the music engulf me.

It was only a few minutes before my relaxation period is interrupted. Someone covers my eyes and removes my head phones.

“Guess who?” a very cheery voice said.
