Our world is kinda like yours, but at the same time it's very different. We still have the same animals, countries, humans....but we also have something else.
We have, what are known as, "Abnormals". They're different from humans, or any other creatures on Earth. The reason they got their name is because of the strange powers they possess.
Most of them look human, with the exception of a select few who do not. The powers some possess are completely harmless, however that doesn't seem to matter to some people.
The Abnormal Recovery & Elimination Agency (AREA) is an organization dedicated to the complete eradication of all abnormals on the world. Some people see them as heroes, while others tend to differ with that ideology.
A few groups of people see nothing but another organization leeching off the world to fuel their own pockets with money. They're right to a curtain degree, AREA doesn't have to do what they do, but that doesn't seem to matter either.
"In this world, it doesn't matter the cost of a single individual, if its for the good of many."
*1992*
An older white man stood on the podium speaking to his audience with great enthusiasm. He said he would protect the world, but those were just false promises, he couldn't even protect himself. To others he seemed to carry a commanding position, but he just looked silly and arrogant to me.
The large room was filled with news reporters, photographers, business representatives, and random wealthy people who paid their way in. I was neither. I, as well as my family, was invited by the CEO's son, who just happened to be my boyfriend.
"So, tell me again why we're here?", Jacob said obnoxiously loud.
I rolled my eyes at my twin brother, he was so stupid at times.
"We are here to see the show. The current CEO of the AREA is announcing who'll be taking over when he resigns from office," my mother explained in her know-it-all type of manner. She did only to annoy him, which seemed to work. He scowled at our mother, but didn't say anything. He crossed his arms and let out a huff of air.
"Sherry, can you at least tell us what exactly you saw in your dreams? I want to know what I have to prepare for." he said facing the man who was still talking.
"Ok, a few days ago I had three different dreams, each showing me a glimpse of the future. In the first dream, I was in the middle of a giant ocean. There was water everywhere you looked, but then suddenly a massive wave formed in the figure of a person. I couldn't tell if it was male or female, but it was so big it reached the clouds.
Then it collapsed and I started floating up towards the sky. When I was cloud level, the sky started to shift and morph into another human-like creature. It was still, but it seemed to move even without moving. For a moment, it was just there, not saying or doing anything, and then I woke up." I finished and faced my mom and brother, waiting for their response.
My mom was leaning back in her seat smoking a cigarette, while my brother slouched in his seat chewing his thumbnail.
"Keep going," Jacob said without removing his gaze from the man.
"In my second dream I was in a dense forest. It was beautiful, trees the size of skyscrapers and vibrantly colored flowers everywhere. Then suddenly the ground started shaking, and a massive creature the bigger than mount Everest rose up from the ground. I saw it stare at me even through the think forest I felt its eyes on me.
After a moment, it began to walk away, leaving a massive crater. From the crater magma began to explode from the Earth's core. That's when the world seem to caught fire. Everything was on fire, even the sky above seemed to turn a darkish red. From the sea of lava rose a monster of fire and magma, with burning eyes and lava vanes. I so there frozen in fear, until I woke up." again, I stopped and waited.
"I remember that night," my mother said exhaling a puff of smoke, "you woke up crying, and I had to calm you down. Now, tell us about the last dream you had."
I nodded, and continued telling my prophecy. "My last dream started out as black as night, but there weren't any stars. It was just a black void. It was like I was drifting through an empty space. The moment I started glowing then there was light. Light began pouring out from my body, mainly my stomach, and forming what looked to be a person. They were make completely of light, and they had two different colored eyes.
It stayed there for awhile, lighting up the darkness, but then the light turned everything white and the being vanished. What it left behind, was something I hope I never see again. It was a being of pure darkness. It wasn't like the empty space like before, it was like a black hole in the shape of a person. And then it spoke...." this got the attention of both my mom and brother.
My dreams tend to have a common theme of being very vague and puzzling. It was very rare for any of my dreams to have sound, let alone dialogue.
"What did it say?" my mother asked facing me. My brother preyed his eyes away from his original interest, and turned to face me as well.
"It said, 'keep your eyes open, because you won't want to miss what happens next', but I have no clue what that mea-."
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Gun shots were fired. The three of us ducked our heads and got down as much as we could. You could here someone screaming, and then, a moment later, another gunshot. After that, it was silent.
I peeked up from my spot on the floor to see what had happened. Nothing too awful seemed to have occurred, until my eyes fell on the center stage. The podium had blood splattered on it, but that wasn't what caught my eyes. What caught my eyes was the dead body of CEO Brian Mathews laying on the floor. His only son was over him holding his corpse, trying and failing to let tears fall down his face.
"Right on time," Jacob said under his breath. While most people would have been confused on his statement, I understood it perfectly. While I have vague dreams of future events, my twin brother has visions of future possibilities.
And in most cases, he sees the death of people. But its so much more that that, he can see the infinite possibilities of any outcome of any future event. His powers are amazing.
"Looks like you future father-in-law is dead." he said without even looking at me. At first I didn't understand, but then it hit me.
"Wait, do you mean-"
"Yep."
"So me and Matt are gonna-"
"Yep"
"Are you-"
"Yes."
"Will you please-"
"No. And don't worry, you're gonna have a lovely wedding and you're gonna make the right choices," he smiled at me. "You're gonna be just fine."
*Now*
Its been twenty-five years sense then....and I can safely say that up until this point in my life, I've made the right decisions.
