Prologue:
The smell of alcohol burned my nose, and my ears hurt from all the screaming and cheering that was going on around us. But I didn't care. Not right now, at least. I threw my cup to the floor and stood up, my body shaking with anger.
"What the hell is wrong with you? She obviously liked you!" I yelled to Kade.
"Why do you care?" He had a smirk on his flawless face, and that angered me even more.
"I care because she's a girl! She's human! She has every right as you do! You shouldn't treat her like she's nothing! You do this with everyone!"
The smirk dropped from his face in an instant. "Hey, just shut the hell up and go back to your nerd cave. This isn't your scene, you shouldn't be here anyway!" Kade muttered, inches away from me.
"I have every right to be here! It's a free country!"
"Oh, please! Don't play that game with me. When you first walked in, you didn't want to be here. Turned down every guy, every drink, and now you wanna get up in my face and be brave? Ha! Oh, and Nikki? She didn't love me. She just wanted my money."
"What do you even know about love, huh? Nothing! Absolutely nothing! So let's play a game! Let's sweet talk, play fight and talk all the time! Huh? Tell each other good morning and good night every day, take walks together and give each other those ridiculous cheesy nicknames. I want to hang out with your douche bag friends and talk on the phone all night. You can hold me, and we can hug and kiss all you want. And whoever falls in love first? Loses!"
His eyes had clear fury in them. His nostrils were flaring, and by the way he was clenching and unclenching his fists, I knew that he was doing his best not to choke me.
"You know the truth? You're just scared of love!"
"Fine!"
"Fine what?"
"I'll do your stupid game! Just shut the hell up and get out of my face!"
With one last shout of annoyance, I turned on my heel, past the crowd of cameras and hollers and screams, out the door and onto the porch.
What did I get myself into?
