"You always have to keep your guard up matter what"

I was only 8 I didnt want to fight . I was frustrated . I sighed and fidgeted with the gold piston chain he gave me when I turned 6 .

"Daddy I dont wanna fight . Im scared . Shes bigger than me"

He sighed and pulled me onto his lap .

"I want you to listen carefully . I dont ever want you to fear any man but God . Ever . Never show fear if you cant control . Ill always be here but sometimes you have to be brave for Amethyst okay ?"

I nodded and smiled .

"I love you A-money"

"I love you too J-bandz"

That was the last thing I said to him before I was forcefully thrown to the ground and blood splattered onto our white living room carpet . I heard a car speed off . I looked over and he wasnt moving .

"Daddy ? Daddy get up . What was that are you okay ? You're bleeding ."

I shook him . No response . I felt my face getting hot and the tears starting to form . I was raised to never show emotion so crying was defenitely a dont . I reached for his phone on the coffee table and called my brother Rodney . It rang twice before he answered .

"Whats happening baby girl . Why you got dads phone ?"

"Rodney .. hes not moving . Theres blood . Hes not moving . He wont talk to me ."

I knew I was in shock . I heard him sigh on the other line .

"Ame pack some clothes and shoes and get your backpack . Grab your coat and go out to the porch ."

I did as told even though in my neighborhood it was never safe to be out while its dark .

I saw his headlights from a distance and heard the loud bass . He got out and I ran and hugged him with all of me . I got in the car and watched him on the phone with a stern look on his face . I knew what was happening . I just didnt want to believe it was true .

I didnt realize Rod was in .

"You're going to be staying with me for awhile aight ?"

I nodded and fell asleep .

I woke up and went to the bathroom Rodney and his friends didnt even notice me I did my buisness and climbed back into bed but before I was asleep again I heard what I didnt want to believe "My pops was just gunned down I know who did it . He aint deserve it and it happened in front of Amethyst . Hospital called me . Hes dead .."
