The Beginging of the End

"There you two are we've been looking for ages." I heard a voice call. Turning I saw Sam approaching us.
He must have noticed my sad expression cause his smile vanished.
"This may come off a little rude but what's the matter with you?"
Sam already seemed to know. "Oh." Was all he managed to say.
"Uh you know it's okay cause he's not the same man you know."
"That doesn't change anything and he isn't a different man. I still love him." I say just barely audible.
"Look I'm sorry, but you know I'm hot too." Sam jokes.
I didn't reply. I just hung my head.
"Uh, too soon?" Sam asked nervously scratching the back of his neck, "right, uh let's just get him to a hospital."

I followed Steve as we joined Nick Fury at his fake grave.
"I have to admit this is pretty odd." Fury remarks.
"You've got that right." Steve says.
"Once again you've done well Captain. And Barnes even though you deliberately disobeyed me if S.H.I.E.L.D was still in operation I'd give you a position." Fury says.
I just nodded and hung my head looking at the ground.
"Barnes?" Fury asked giving me a slightly terrifying questioning look.
I refused to answer. I was far too depressed.
"Have you gone mute, Barnes?" Fury demands.
"She's a little up set about well Bucky." Steve explained for me.
"Ah." Fury says lamely.
Just then Sam and Nat show up.
"So what's next?" Natasha asks.
"Now I try to find Bucky." Steve says.
"When do we start?" Sam asks.
"Now." Steve replied.
"I used to have eyes and ears everywhere." Fury says sadly.
"We can manage." Nat promises.
"We'll help when we can." Sam promised.
"So," Nat says with a smirk going to stand next to Steve, "have you called that nurse yet?"
"What's her name again?"
"Sharon."
"Right."

"So do you like it here?" Steve asks as we sat in an apartment in New York City eating Chinese take out.
"It's pretty nice." I mumble.
"You don't have to keep the name Zauberhexe you know." Steve points out. Natasha had released all of HYDRA's secrets but in doing so she also released all of S.H.I.E.L.D's secrets as well so now the whole world knows I'm Katie Rogers Barnes the first woman in the army and Zauberhexe the evil witch HYDRA assassin.
I've been getting a ton of heat for it as well.
"Hell no. I'm keeping the name." I say taking a bite of noodles.
Steve nearly choked on his. "Why?"
"To prove to the losers at HYDRA that they're so pathetic they can't control a person they brainwashed. They don't own me. I'm keeping the name to stick it to them."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive."
"So the Avengers, when do I get to join?" I ask without looking up.
"I wasn't planning on you joining them. I thought maybe you'll get a job at a coffee shop or an office position."
"There you go again treating me like a kid."
"Katie the world has changed. I do t think you understand that. It's different you'll get hurt I can't have that it's dangerous."
"Oh and what's the army? Summer camp?"
"Kate-"
"It's war, I get it the worlds changed! I've told you people I know danger! Besides while you're off fighting with the Avengers I'll be here alone unprotected! I could get hurt! Wouldn't it be better if I was closer to them?" I counter.
"Agh fine you win, I'll take you to meet them tomorrow. Possibly join. Now go to bed." Steve says giving in.
"Yay! I win, mom." I say happily jumping up and clearing my plate.
"Oh guess what I found?"
"What?" Steve groans.
"When Captain America throws his mighty shield all who oppose his mighty shield must yield unless your a plane! Or a bomb! Or some ice cause the ice seems nice!" I sang.
  "Oh shut up!" Steve complains.
  "Never!" I cheer before running upstairs.
