I hummed a cheery tune walking over to my locker after having experienced what I thought would never happen. Chad Roscoe had finally asked me out.

Of course, I remained as cool as a cucumber on the exterior, but I knew my stomach was doing flips from how excited I was. We had been casually flirting our way through English class for weeks now. I wanted a guy to actually work their way to a date with me.

Chad was the pretty boy jock at Hallandale High. Everyone wanted him. He wasn't used to trying so hard as all the girls in school swooned at his feet. I think that's what made us so dynamic. I was obviously interested in him, but I teased him. It was unexpected and rousing.

The moment was playing on repeat in my head until I was rudely interrupted by the nuisance next door. My locker mate since sophomore year, Wesley, was back at it again. He slammed his locker right by my ear and started his usual routine.

"Snap out of it, princess," he nagged.

"Back off, Ridges," I grumbled. "I'm having a good day and I swear if you ruin it I-"

Wesley interrupted me smugly, "You'll what?" He crossed his arms and leaned against his locker. "You'll get your new boy toy to teach me a lesson?"

"How'd you know about that?" I asked, wondering how fast news really travels in this school.

"It's pretty obvious. I mean, you had that stupid 'I have a date' smile on your face. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out."

"No, but it does take someone who pays close attention to me. You know, I'm beginning to think that you have a crush on me," I teased, closing my locker.

Wesley scoffed, "Me? Have a crush on you? In your dreams, Clark."

I shrugged nonchalantly, "If it helps you sleep at night. Now if you'll excuse me, I have somewhere to be and people to see. See ya, Wesley. "

I started to walk away when I heard him ask a question, "Who's the sucker anyways?"

"Chad Roscoe!" I yelled, still walking, not turning back to him.

After meeting up with Chloe and Skyler, my two closest friends, and gushing over my date tonight with Chad, we got straight to work. There was a lot to do and I only had a few hours before he would come to pick me up.

They both promised to stay by my side until I left. I felt relieved because if it wasn't for them, I knew my nerves would get the best of me. I hadn't been on a date since my last boyfriend, Asher. It had almost been a year since I had opened myself up to anyone else, but Chad seemed to be the right person to do it with.

After eating a quick snack, Chloe started helping me do my makeup while Sky worked on my hair.

"I'm so happy that you're doing this, Naomi." Skyler told me, running a brush through my hair. "It was about time you let yourself into the dating world again."

"I know, I know. I think I'm actually ready this time. I want to have fun again."

"And you will, hon. Especially with Chad, I heard his dates are some of the best," Chloe wagged her eyebrows.

I giggled, I already knew she was going to be the first to ask for the details. "I think you guys are looking a little bit more excited than I am."

Skyler began, "Can you blame us? We've seen you be all mopey and dopey since-"

Chloe's eyes widened as she cleared her throat loudly as if to say, "Don't bring him up."

Sky immediately realized her mistake and tried again, "We're just glad to see you happy again."
