Speaking of us...when can i see you, ya know...outside of work?
I squealed and slammed my free hand against the dashboard. The joy was immediately ripped away when I realized who I was talking to. If any of my dad's friends saw me, I risked the chance of never escaping his watchful eye.
But I was 17.
And living under the constant fear of disappointing my dad also made me risk the chance of never having a life of my own. I had broken his rules and the law plenty of times before. Now would be no exception.
How about right now? ;)
Placing the phone in the cup holder, I smirked. Nobody would stop me now.
After buckling my seat belt, I pushed some buttons on the radio until I found a station I liked. Turning back to the steering wheel, I could see something looming out of my peripheral.
My heart beat quickened as I tightened my grip on the wheel. Reaching to put my car in reverse, I heard a muffled voice say, "Hey! Don't panic. It's just me."
My nerves were immediately calmed at the sound of his voice. Rolling down the window, I let out a deep breath and came face to face with Calum.
"Oh my god, you scared the actual hell out of me."
He gave me an apologetic smile and shoved his hands into his pockets.
'Sorry. I tried to catch you as you were leaving the building, but I guess I lost track of time." At the sudden realization of what he had said, he began to back pedal. "Not that I watch you come in and out all day. You all just sort of leave around the same time every day, so I figured-."
"Calum! It's fine. It's nice that you notice these things."
We sat in silence for a bit before he spoke again.
"So, you uh...y-you said we should hang out. T-tonight." He stammered. I inwardly celebrated over his shyness.
"Yeah, there's just something I have to do first." Picking up my phone, I dialed in my home number.
As it started to ring, I warned, "Don't make a sound."
The other end buzzed for a few seconds before my mom picked up. "Hello?"
"Hey, mom. Melinda invited me over for dinner at her house, so I'm just going to head over there. Is that cool?"
Calum smirked as he leaned on the side of my car.
"Bad, bad." He mouthed, shaking his head. I swatted at his hand.
"That's fine, sweetie. Tell her I said hi!"
"Thanks. I will. Yeah, I love you, too. Bye."
I triple checked to make sure that the line was dead before speaking to Calum again.
"Alright, hop in. I know exactly where to go."

In the 45 minutes I had been driving, I had learned a couple things about Calum:
1.) He liked to control the radio and
2.)he had a habit of playing air guitar
Both of which were extremely appealing to me.
After a little more time had passed, I finally pulled into small, paved parking lot.
"We're here!" I exclaimed, hopping out of the car. He followed close behind and surveyed his surroundings.
"Good because I'm starving. If you don't mind me asking...where are we?"
