Arriving at Speckledown

'Speckledown Manor.' I giggled. 'Who calls a place that? I read somewhere that there used to be a Lord and Lady who lived there- incredibly posh!'

Charley laughed, mimicking a 'gentleman' drinking tea. I found it so funny I spat my strawberry milkshake everywhere, which only made us all laugh more.

Sundays are usually boring, but not when you're with four crazy friends in the cafe, planning where to go in Summer. My parents are away with work so I needed something to do. It would be a laugh, right? Tours around a massive posh house. We could pretend to be ghosts and vampires and take pictures with skeletons!

'Hey Castle, why don't we pack and go tomorrow?' Jack said without looking up from the leaflet. I laughed sarcastically, then saw his dead serious face and frowned. 'You really think we should? I'd have to get all my stuff washed and...' I trailed off.

'Castle, you're not scared of this stupid house are you?' Charley smirked, handing me a doughnut. 'What?- no!' I awkwardly shuffled in my seat and started playing with my ponytail.

Then Si showed me a picture on his phone of the place and I could feel a shiver coming. The halls were massively tall and dark, so you couldn't even see to the top- there were paintings on the wall that stared  at you and carpet that looked like no one had touched for centuries. Which was probably true.
