"Thomas Jefferson?" Washington called out.

"Here," Thomas said lazily, rolling his eyes. He half listened as Washington continued down his list. To him taking attendance was useless. It was a class in law, not many students at the college took the class, and the ones that did usually never showed up. A few students were there everyday. Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, Thomas himself, and James Madison. Other students would come occasionally, but those four Washington could count on.

"James Madison," Washington's eyes didn't lift from the list of names. Silence filled the room. "James?" Washington looked up, expecting to see James sitting at his usual spot in the back corner of the room, not paying attention enough to hear his name being called.

But that was not the case. The desk was empty, slightly surprising Washington.

James wasn't absent often, maybe once a month if he was too sick to come to class. But other than that he was always there.

"Thomas?" Washington asked once he had finished attendance. Thomas' head snapped up from where it was previously placed on his desk, cushioned by his mess of curls.

"Yes?" He asked. His tone sounded slightly annoyed, but that's just how his voice always sounded.

"Have you seen Madison?" Thomas tilted his head in confusion. He whipped his head around to stare at James' unoccupied desk. Thomas couldn't say he wasn't worried. James was his best friend, he hadn't spoken to him all day. But an absence didn't constitute a missing persons report. Thomas convinced himself that James was fine, at least enough to calm him down so he could answer Washington's question.

"No, I haven't sir. He must be sick," Thomas pulled out his phone, knowing Washington wouldn't mind. He shot James a quick text saying "Where are you?", eagerly waiting for a response.

"No one has seen him since his first class," Alexander said, making Thomas glare at him. Truthfully, he didn't say anything wrong, it was just merely the sound of Alexander's voice that pissed Thomas off.

Aaron spoke up, which was a pretty rare occurrence. He usually kept to himself, he had a little motto of "Talk less, smile more".

"I heard his boyfriend dumped him this morning," Aaron said, making Thomas turn towards him, anger filling his chest.

"Washington, my apologies, but I have to go now," Thomas attempted a smile, though the level of anger in his system forbid it. He calmly stood from his desk, and walked towards the door of the classroom, trying to keep his cool long enough to get out of the the room. He wasn't successful, when he reached the door he threw a punch at it, not even flinching as his hand went straight through the wood. A hole the size of his fist visible when he pulled his hand away, which now hurt like hell. Thomas brushed it off, wrapping his definitely broken fingers in the excess fabric of his sweater that usually hung down below his waistline.

Thomas resisted the urge to yell at students who passed him as he made his way to the dorms. Thomas had one focus in the moment, only one thing mattered.

Getting to James.
