"Get my bowl" I heard him say, I asked him where it was and he said "down there" but there was nothing there and he was getting so annoyed I couldn't find it he ended up saying "forget it". Yes he is a loopy patient, I guess you could say he is on the 'loopy train' as he once thought he was at a train station although it was just a helicopter landing at the hospital. His name is unknown but we found him in a car in the forest after trying to escape the robot apocalypse. This wasn't just any ordinary apocalypse, of course yes it involved robots but there's more to it than that. It all began in a factory.
The creator had thought that he could design robots with human capabilities, yes they worked for a while until one day he mixed up his work space and accidentally put a wrong motherboard and 5 more resisters than he should have in one and everything went haywire from there, this patient was the creator, he was at the main of the outbreak, he must've just been able to get to his car and drive far enough into the forest so that the robots couldn't find him, and that's where we found him.
I asked him when we bought him in as to how he escaped and all he could say was "press the gas" I understood what he meant by that, what he was trying to mean was that all he had to do was press the gas peddle to outrun the outbreak. All I kept thinking in my head was "this poor man how could he have survived for a while in the forest, no food or water" yes we had to put him straight to a drip for liquid as he was so dehydrated and was in a critical state. I checked the bag he had with him and I found a book.
I opened the book, i was thinking it had some personal information to see who he was. That's not what I found. It was all diary entries, these are amazing, the fact that he wrote this as a record of everything he did helps us nursing staff know if there's any underlying cause to what he is experiencing. Here, '20th July 2038, I've been eating wild passionfruit , I can only eat to a certain line which is about half way, this is so that I don't over eat because I don't know how many resources are left and will be left, and I don't know how long I will be out here for. Update 31st August, I can hear sirens from medical help but I can't see anything, late last night there was a search drone but didn't see me, I don't know how well I can trust technology now'. This diary he kept has been so useful, we've been able to partially figure out why he is loopy, it's the wild passionfruit, they had been sprayed with pesticides, we sent someone to go and collect some things from the area for testing and that's all we found that could have some relevance to why he is like this.
We've given him many doses of antibiotics to get rid of the the pesticides from his system. He's doing better, talking more and eating, we've taken him off the drip, and he's staying on good levels with everything. We took him out to the site in a wheelchair where we found him the other day and he showed us what happened and how he got away. The robots are no longer around, all the batteries have gone flat and so everyone is safe. There's a lot of mess and debris around, the workshop is mostly destroyed, lucky for him he won't really be needing to go back and live there, all he needs to do is collect all his stuff as he will be staying in hospital for a while for monitoring and then we will talk to family, once we know who they are, about whether to put him in a nursing home or not.
It's been a week since we took him to the site, he has told us his name is Robert Oliver and we went to the police to see if this is correct and they have proven that it is. We've spoken to the family and they have told us that when he is discharged he will be going to live with his daughter and son-in-law and they will take care of him.
It's 18th December 2038 and his time is almost up at the hospital and it's time to say goodbye to Robert and to send him off to his family, I've grown quite close to him in the past few months, he's been like a grandfather to me, he's always been caring and everything, even when my shift was over and it was time to go home, I would stay behind for a while until he told me to go home. This year has been the most eventful and lovely year so far working in the nursing department for me, and I've even been told that I can go and see Robert and his family regularly to check up and have a chat, time to go home and get ready for Christmas now.
