The vividness with which I remember the moment I got the call is unparalleled.

It was a Thursday evening and I had just started painting the third water lily in a painting of a country waterscape that had taken weeks to get to near completion. Spotify was playing softly in the background with the sunset lighting up the room more than enough and I was humming softly to Tomorrow by James Hersey.

Just finished mixing three different shades of green to create the perfect color, I had just barely touched my brush to the canvas when my phone began blaring Pocket Full of Sunshine by Natasha Benningfield. I smiled, it was the ringtone that belonged to my best friend Dinah.

We had been friends since the third grade. It was the first day of Mrs. Porter's class and everyone in the class knew each other since we had been in school together since kindergarten. All of a sudden, an unfamiliar face walked in. She was abnormally tall for our age, and had long, blonde curly hair that resembled something of a golden afro.

Almost instantly, the rest of the class began to laugh at her, the combination of her hair and her height was hilarious to the immature eight year olds. I frowned as I watched the girl at the front of the room shift uncomfortably, tearing forming silently in her eyes. Mrs. Porter did what she could to get the kids to settle down, but nothing was working.

"What's your name?" I stood up and spoke to the girl at the front of the room, effectively quieting the rest of the class.

"Dinah," she spoke back cautiously, waiting for me to join in on making fun of her.

"I'm Lauren, want to come sit next to me?" I pointed to the empty chair to my right.

She smiled slightly, taking the seat beside me, and the rest is history.

Returning to the present moment, I put down my brush and reached over to pick up my phone. "What's up, DJ?" I spoke as I leaned back onto my seat.

"Hello, is this Lauren Jauregui?" a gruff man's voice spoke through the line.

"Um-yes. Who is this?" I pulled the phone away from my ear for a moment to check who was calling. I wasn't mistaken, it was Dinah's name on the screen. I quickly put the phone back against my face so I could listen to the person on the other end of the line.

"-detective Thornbury with the Miami Police. The Hansen's were involved in a house fire," he paused for a moment and I drew my breath in, my throat swelling up.

"Are they okay? Oh my god. Where are they now?" I quickly got up, bolting toward the door to grab my keys and pull on the first two shoes my fingers touched.

"I'm sorry, Dinah and Normani didn't make it," there was no pause in between his sentences this time as I nearly collapsed, "However, their daughter is on the way to Martinez Memorial Hospital. We're calling you because you are listed as one of Skylar's godparents."

My head was swimming as I somehow stumbled down the stairs of my apartment and into the parking lot. Dinah and Normani were gone? How was that possible? I had just seen them last night, happy as ever, as they watched Sky open her birthday presents.

My heart broke right then for her. She had just turned seven and her parents were dead.

I tried to process everything the detective was saying and my brain came to a halt when it processed the last thing he had said. "I'm her godparent?"

"One of them, yes. It says here that the other is Camila Cabello."

Camila Cabello? Who was that? I jammed my keys into the ignition of my car, unsure of when I had actually gotten inside of it. "Where is Skylar again?" I asked, unable to recall any of the details after the news the detective had told me.

"Martinez Memorial Hospital-"

I cut him off quickly, "I'm on my way."

The ride to the hospital is a blur. I'm sure I did at least three times the speed limit the entire way. My mind jumped between breaking down over my best friend's death and shock at being named Sky's godparent. Why hadn't Dinah or Normani told me? And who was Camila Cabello?

As soon as I had parked my car into the first space I saw, I slammed my door shut and sprinted my way inside.

Panting as I reached the secretary's desk, I quickly rambled off my name and why I was there.

"I'm sorry, you're going to have to slow down and breathe. What did you say?" The young secretary looked at me with empathy.

"My name is Lauren Jauregui. I'm here to see Skylar Hansen, I'm her godmother," the world felt weird coming out of my mouth.

The secretary quickly checked something on her computer as I shuffled with impatience. I needed to see Sky and make sure that she was okay.

"I'm sorry, she's still in the emergency department. I'll let you know as soon as you can see her." she spoke apologetically.

I opened my mouth to protest, but suddenly something came crashing into me from behind, nearly knocking me over the secretary's desk.

Turning around, I was about to scold whoever it was that ran into me until I saw an undeniably attractive brunette messily sprawled out on the cold tile. She was clad in tight dark jeans and a grey hoodie with a college logo that I couldn't read. Her long hair fell like a curtain around her head and I was mesmerized. I kept my eyes on her as she started to pull herself up, but stopped as she looked at my feet.

"You're wearing two different shoes," she spoke in a raspy tone as she pointed to my two distinctly different shoes.

She looked up at me then and tilted her head to the side as if she were trying to remember something.

I blushed at the fact that I was wearing two different shoes and that this pretty girl had pointed it out. As my eyes remained locked with her beautiful brown orbs, I almost didn't hear the voice behind me.

"Skylar is being moved to her room now if you'd like to see her."

I quickly helped the pretty brunette to her feet, ignoring the pricks of electricity that jolted through me as I wrapped my hands around her. Once she was standing again, I turned back to the secretary and was about to speak until the girl cut me off.

"Skylar Hansen?" she asked hurriedly

The secretary nodded.

"She's my goddaughter, I'm Camila Cabello."

I instantly turned back to the shorter girl. So this was Camila.

My mind was still flooded with questions as the secretary quickly led us to Skylar.

Who really was Camila Cabello?

And why had I never seen her before?
