"I just don't get it!"
Penny flung her pillow onto the wall, which ricocheted off. She had been tripping through weeks of strong coffee and half-assed attempts to organise her field reports. Ever since "The Incident", Penny hadn't been able to get more than three hours of sleep a night. Uncle Gadget was appalled and annoyed (although not mad) that the house had been stomped over by MAD laser bots. Chief Quimby had the rest of HQ whispering and murmuring over the sudden disappearance of Talon. Kayla had been eyeing Penny with a little suspicion over the top of her mashed potatoes and juice, but she didn't bring it up. Penny felt awful and confused.
"So does he even like me or nah?" Penny rolled over and half-heartedly pulled up her CodeX. "5 emails telling me to get my life together, 8 reminders and alarms that I have consequently missed...again, and 1 text, probably from a junior HQ agent who wants help with their petty assignment."
Deciding that she had nothing better to do anyway, Penny read the text.
Look outside.
"Stupid prank texts," Penny deleted it and rolled back over.
Another text came.
Penny I'm serious, look outside.
"Oh."
Penny stumbled over the papers and clothes strewn over the floor and opened the window. She saw nothing at first, but then she saw it. A shiny white object glaring at her in the sun, obscured by the overgrown bushes outside her window. When she clambered out, she fished it out and realised that it was a box. Wrapped in shiny white paper and a red ribbon, it looked like the type of wrapped gift huge shopping malls would offer. She sat down and inspected the tag attached. Scrawled over it was neat, cursive handwriting.
Hey Pretty Penny,
Since I left without saying thanks, here's a little gift I've decided to make for you.
Penny didn't have to read the signature to know who it was from. She tore the wrapping open a little too eagerly and fished out a pair of boots and a card.
Here's a pair of rocket boots just like mine, but I made them ya know, white. I'm sure you know how to operate it...right??? Since you're pretty smart and all...don't let it get to your head! And yes, I know what you're thinking, and no, I wrapped this gift myself because my gift wrapping skills are just that awesome.
Talon
The boots were exactly like Talon's. It was a creamy shade of white, and there was a hint of cyan edging to it, and little wing-shaped embellishments on the top. Very Penny-style. A grin crept across her face. She wanted to fly up to the sky and shout to the whole world...once she knew how to operate these boots.
"Gee I didn't know he had any artistic ability in him," Penny grinned like a fool.
Talon smiled too, peeking into the window from his airborne vantage point. Man, I'm going soft. Those boots may prevent my escape from being too easy, but I'm awesome enough to make my own getaway, Talon zoomed off into the night.
Hey guys!!! That was it for my first Talenny fanfic, more to come soon!
