I don't Believe In Monsters

Chapter 21

Elijah's POV

We pull up to Wickery Bridge as I halt the car and everyone slams forward. Klaus gets out of the car, then me, Haley and Rebekah. Haley cradles hope in her arms..

I start to look around, to be honest I'm kind of nervous.

Look Elena, she is Klaus' sister by blood. But I've always cared for Elena exspecially when we were trying to kill my brother we grew close. She is a very kind and likable person and now I care about her more than ever. She is also my sister by heart, family is what you make it.

When I meet the halfway point of the bridge I see a body. I rush over to it as fast as I can, hoping that its not who I think it is. I kneel down to the girl, knowing she may look exactly like Elena, but this is Katerina Patrova. And she is dead. But there is no weapon in her chest. I am extremely confused until I realize that whatever happens to Katherine happens to Elena. Nothing effects Katherine except death. Which means that, Elena is gone. She is dead. This cannot be happening. Something inside me shatters as I fall to my knees beside Katherine's body and I look around me.

A pool of blood on the ground on the other side of the bridge. That is most likely where she was killed. There are two ropes tied to the bridge. What happened here?

"Elijah!" Niklaus yells as he runs over to me.

Klaus takes one look down and he is confused. And when realization hits his eyes his mouth flies right open. He starts to yell and scream, and if I could count the pain in his eyes I'd be dead by the time I was finished. He has tears coming out of his eyes and mine as well. Haley and Rebekah run over eyes filled with worry unsure of what's going on until they see the body lying on the floor.

"No..." Haley whispers so very quietly.

"Where is she Nik? She is still alive right?" Rebekah asks her voice shaking. Rebekah was never really close to Elena, but she was close enough.

"No, rebekah." I say as more tears come down my cheek. Haley gives hope to Rebekah, not Klaus because he is having a mental breakdown. She bends down to my level and pulls me into an embrace. My face is buried into her neck as she kisses the top of my head. Suddenly we hear something.

"Help! Please someone! Help me!" And it sounds either exactly like Elena or I'm hallucinating. We all turn to where the sound is coming from and we look over the bridge.

We see Elena holding up an unconscious Damon in the water while she is half drowning as she slides a ring onto his finger. Almost instantly relief hits as I know that she is alive. I take off my suit jacket as klaus jumps off of the bridge, once my jacket is off I follow after him.

We pull Elena to the land as well as Damon. Damon is unconscious and Elena is choking on whatever water was in her system. This was going to be a long day.

Elena's POV

I finish choking up a ton of water and turn my attention back to Damon. He is on the ground next to the lake unconscious.

"Uh, somebody give him there blood, mine will hurt him." I say my voice shaking. I know he is going to wake up, but I'm terrified. He tried to kill himself because of me. Klaus steps over to Damon and bites his wrist and puts it to Damon's mouth. Nothing happens before Damon starts to feed on Klaus.

A big weight is lifted off of my chest as he groans in agony. He grabs the back of his head and sits up.

"Damon!" I yell and jump into his open arms.

"Elena, I thought you were dead, you should be dead, what happend are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asks in a hurry pulling me back to examine me to make sure I'm not hurt in any way. He pulls me into a kiss and I actually stay there for a minute before I realize what I'm doing. I pull back and push Damon down as I stand up.

"Elena?" Klaus asks as I start to walk away. He tried to kill himself because of me! How could he be so, so stupid! He could've been happy without me, he could've found a way.

Klaus follows me as Elijah keeps Damon over there. I find a grassy spot away from everyone and I sit down and bring my knees to my chest. Klaus walks over to me and sits down in the same position.

"What's wrong little sister? You've got Damon back. What could be wrong?" He asks. Wow. Is everyone I love so clueless?

"Klaus, he tried to kill himself because I died. I had to push him off of a bridge to save his life! He was willing to die because of me, and I'm a half hybrid now, which makes everything else worse." I explain.

"How, by the way? How are you even alive? A stake went straight through Katherine's heart, you were linked to her, you should've died even if you had vampire blood in your system." Klaus questions.

"I'll have Freya show you all later. She can show you guys a video in my head or something like that." I say Klaus nods as Elijah and Damon come over to us and I stand up. 

"Elena I-" Damon starts but cut him off and start to walk away with everyone following behind me.
