The sweet ocean breeze filled my lungs and cleansed the pollution from my body. It was a simple yet amazing day. The ocean waves lapped at the golden sands beneath my feet and created intricate designs. My footsteps were imprinted in the fine grains as I walked away from my group of friends. They had invited me over to their adventures in the sea and I had happily agreed. However, I did not know of the attenders of the party. Yes, they were my friends, but, Mia had never told me that she was also inviting the entire squad. I had gotten to the location only to see that he was there with his girlfriend. My emotions had flooded me at that moment and a lump of sadness had formed in my throat. I only swallowed it down and greeted everyone normally. I tried to have fun, and my friends bought it. Yet, I did ignore him entirely. I tried to stay away as far as possible. Now that the occasion had winded down into the sunset, I had taken my chance to escape from the accompaniment of my friends and have some alone time. Which is the reason I am walking down the ocean shore by myself. My eyes wandered over to the small birds dotting the horizon and rays of sun that washed the body of water. It was a beautiful sight. One that I didn't deserve for sure. I let my hair fall onto my face as I looked back down at the sand. I tried to not have my feelings taken, but I couldn't. He had swooped in and stolen every inch of my heart. And once he got a girlfriend, he took those pieces and dropped them to the ground. They shattered into millions of little pieces. Each one with jagged edges of pain and remorse. Dyed red with sorrow and hate. I was like a flag after a war. A leaf blowing in the wind. Broken and depressed. I had tried to get him to notice me, but it seemed that he only stayed away more often. Slowly, we got farther apart. There were oceans between us. Just like the one that was in front of me. I noticed a small collection of boulders that jutted into the sea and my eyes lit up. It was a perfect place to stare out into nothingness. I picked up my pace and made my way over to the black and gray colored rocks. The sand pressed between my bare feet as I ran towards the structures. I clambered onto the first rock and built out my path to get to the very edge. I leapt from one rock to another before reaching a rather large black one that was directly in front of water. The waves crashed on the very bottom and rose higher as they made impact with the boulder. The view showed the gold sun slowly setting into the deep blue sea in front of me. A palm tree beside me swayed gently with the breeze and let out a song with its leaves. I made myself comfortable on the rock and pressed my knees up to my chest. As I watched the constant motion of water going up and down, I became hypnotized. On and on they went. A rollercoaster of water. I was so transfixed on this phenomenon that I didn't hear the footsteps that silently became louder behind me. I wrapped my arms around my knees as a slight puff of cold wind glided over me. Suddenly, I felt a warm fabric be placed on my shoulders. I snapped out of my trance and looked next to me as a familiar figure settled itself beside me. "You're going to get cold," he simply said.
"C-Chris!" I cried out. His body sat down next to me and looked out at the view.
"Don't want a girl like you to get sick."
Heat rushed to my cheeks as silence washed over us. His floof of brown hair swayed in the breeze and his calm features struck me with lightning. Although he was only wearing a plain white t-shirt and black shorts, he was amazing in my eyes. I snapped my gaze back to the ocean as I remembered that he already had someone that wasn't me.
"Why are you so quiet?" he asked me.
My eyes widened a little as he said this and I responded, "What do you mean? I'm perfectly fine. Just like a kid and her teddy bear."
"It doesn't sound like it." His head turned to look at me. "Your eyes don't have that shine today."
That brought me back into the real world. I stared at Chris with confusion. I searched his eyes for some evidence that he wasn't actually saying that out of context. I only came up with a calmness swimming around in his green irises. My lips formed a small smile before quietly answering, "It's nothing. I was only thinking."
"About what?"
My mouth opened to come up with an excuse, but my voice faltered. "Chris, it's not anything that's important."
"Oh come on," he grinned and spread his arms out. "You can tell Chrissy anything!"
I giggled a little bit before turning back to the view of the sea. The sun was already halfway obscured by the water. I took a deep breath before beginning, "Tell me, if you loved someone but you knew that they never loved you back, what would you do? Move on? Or would you actually think about why you never did anything?" I didn't look back at the man beside me and stayed silent.
"Do you know what I would do?" he finally said.
"What?"
"I would ask them this." He suddenly turned my head to face his and stared into my eyes. "Could you carry me back into your heart again? Could you carry me right into your distant hands? Could you carry me, right back where we started from? "
