Chapter 6
Kyle and Lorcan were waiting for them outside. Emerald had gone in with her to 'choose something worth wearing' as she put it. Apparently all Jackie's clothes gave her migraine. However that was possible.
She had been shoved into a knee-length tunic in a dark grey colour and had black leggings on. Se didn't particularly look like herself, but Jackie liked the change. It still suited her and exuded her devil-may-care attitude.
Kyle and Lorcan were talking out a storm in the garden with two smallish dragons near them. They were clearly talking about them as Lorcan kept lifting them and turning them around and prodding at their stomachs or something equally unusual.
And surprisingly, the dragons were letting themselves be scrutinised with not an objectionable fire raised. In fact, they seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely.
One dragon was reddish brown with intelligent brown eyes and sharp claws and muscular body. The other was a silver with striking blue eyes and looked slightly more feminine.
It is said that silver is rarer than gold. Emerald spoke.
Jackie jumped. "Don't do that!"
What? Emerald sounded genuinely confused except for a telltale twinkle in her eyes.
"That!"
Very clear, I must say.
"The whole suddenly speaking but not speaking thing!"
Oh, okay. You could've just said that in the first place.
"Of course." Jackie said sarcastically.
Humans are such useless creatures.
"I didn't know you thought of us so lowly Em!" Lorcan called out. "It's very hurtful."
"Oh the pain! It's unbearable!" Kyle said falling down in mock-hurt. "I love you so Emerald and you betray me in this way! How could you!" He was beating his chest.
"What about me?!" Jackie joined in the fray with enthusiasm. "I thought I was your one true love! Oh Kyle! My love! My only salvation! My soul—!"
Hmph. Humans are so totally useless.
"Emerald! Shush! I always knew this would happen!" Lorcan said jesting. He regularly prayed for them never to get together just so that the prophecy could come true, even though there wasn't sufficient proof that they were the ones.
Hmph. Emerald repeated, but remained silent.
Kyle and Jackie went on as though nothing had happened.
"You fill up my heart and make me whole Kyle! I cannot be without you and I cannot bear to see you with anyone else."
"You really truly love me? Oh Jackie. I've loved you ever since I laid eyes on you. You were so adoring and calm that I couldn't help but fall."
"In love? With me? You really love me? Oh Kyle!"
He grabbed her hands now. His eyes boring into her own, "I love you more than time itself. And nothing," he growled, "nothing can take you away from me now." Jackie faltered.
This wasn't supposed to happen. Lorcan thought frantically to Emerald.
Looks like they weren't The Ones after all.
But as Lorcan continued to scrutinise them he could see that that one falter had meant nothing as Jackie pretended to flirt and swoon around Kyle, while he was on one knee proposing marriage.
