PROLOGUE

You never really know how dependent you are on something until its gone. I guess you could say I learned that the hard way.

My name's Ella O'Malley, and I've been blind for as long as I can remember.

This is the part where I'd go into great detail about my flowing brown hair and gorgeous green eyes....but I can't exactly do that, can I? People have always told me I have red hair. But that doesn't really mean much to me. I've never seen a glimpse of color my whole life. And my eyes? Well, they're apparently grey.

People have told me that clouds are grey too, so I guess I just have to take them at their word.

That's what sucks about being blind. You never know if what people tell you is true or false. You have to really trust the people telling you things. I could have tail for all I know.

But not being able to see is all I've ever known, and you could say I'm getting along okay. I read Braille, I walk with a cane, I even have a seeing eye dog, Finn.

But that's just it. All my life has been just okay. I want to do something meaningful with my life. I'm 19 and I've never taken a step outside of Wilson's School for the Visually Impaired.

But that's all going to change. I'm finding a way out of here. I'll go to Paris, Italy, Spain... Somewhere as far away from this rinky-dink town as I can get.

I'll just need some help.

You've reached the end of published parts.
