Water, the one thing that every living thing needs in order to survive, it is essential to life. But right now, all of this pouring rain is starting to irritate Scarlet. She continued to run like her life depended on it down the street, water splashing all around as she rushed through all of the deep puddles that littered the pavement.
"I am soaked and wet, I am tired, I am distraught, but I do not care. I have to stop that idiot before it is too late!" Scarlet thought desperately as she continued to breathe heavily, pushing her lungs and heart to their limit. She then quickly began to turn to run down an alley to take a shortcut, before she slipped and fell to the ground. Water splashed around more as she hit the cold, dirty pavement, and some blood dripping from her now scraped arms. Scarlet winced in pain before she quickly pushed herself off the ground, she didn't have any time to waste. Her arms hurt like hell, the pouring rain only seemed to make her feel worse, and she thought she may have even pulled a muscle or sprained her ankle as it began to sting and tighten up.
However, Scarlet was still pushing herself to run even faster down the alley. Scarlet as she now began to think back as to why she was here, exhausted beyond belief and still running to reach him in time.
Yesterday, things were very different. Scarlet sighed as she rubbed her long scarlet hair, before she looked over at her friends. Gaius currently was sitting against a tree, with a lollipop in his mouth, while Leilah was hanging upside down from one of the tree branches. They have been best friends for a few years now, their parents were friends and introduced them all to each other, and eventually they all became friends. Although Gaius was pretty reluctant about being friends, Scarlet knew he cared more than he let on. Leilah then let herself down, as she then began to stretch her arms."Ahhhh...Leilah is going to go and get something to eat, and she wants to know if you two want to come with" Leilah said casually. Scarlet liked how Leilah talked how she wanted, which so happened to be in third person. She thought Leilah talked that way just because it was fun for her, though she wasn't completely sure about that.
"Sorry, my parents wanted me to come for dinner, and I gotta leave in a few minutes" Scarlet responded. She wanted to come with, but her parents wanted to celebrate her mother's birthday today.
"I will come and meet you there in a little while, I feel comfortable here right now" Gaius quietly responded, his lollipop still inside of his mouth.
"Alright! Leilah will see you both later, bye!" She then happily walked off down the street, bouncing a little as she walked.
"Alright, I think I am gonna head out too Gaius"
"Here, take one for the road" He then tossed her a strawberry flavored lollipop he pulled out from his pocket, which she then caught.
"Thanks! Alright see ya!" She then waved him goodbye as she smiled to him.
Scarlet continued to rush through the rain as she stopped at a stop sign, catching a much needed breath. Her heart was pounding extremely fast, and her legs felt weak, but she knew that she was not going to stop anytime soon. She quickly looked both ways to make sure she wasn't going to get run over, before she began to sprint yet again, filled with large amounts of adrenaline. Scarlet then passed by a cafe where people were taking shelter from the rain, as she began to think back again.
"Leilah was what!? I am coming right now!" Scarlet yelled into her phone, before she quickly ended the call with Leilah's father. Scarlet then bolted out of the door, practically forgetting her shoes from how fast she left. Scarlet had just heard that Leilah was drugged last night and that she was now bedridden by her parents. As she ran down the dry pavement, she saw how cloudy and dark it was this afternoon, and did not really pay any mind to it, she had bigger priorities at the moment. After running for another minute or so, she reached Leilah's house. Luckily they lived close to one another, so she could reach her house quickly. She did not even bother to knock, her parents treated Scarlet like family for one and they were both probably at work right now anyways. Scarlet then ran up the steps and quickly rushed into Leilah's bedroom.
