David Burke's POV:

"Son, calm down, I will get the money to you, I'm a little tight right now."

"I already told you, I don't care. You've had your second chance. Either I get the money now, or you're dead."

"But-"

"But nothing Mr. Burke, San Francisco's popular engineer, the one with the biggest house and fanciest cars. I'm sure you can spare a few thousand dollars."

I really need to get away from this crazy teenager. I'm stupid for even getting involved with him and his gang. All because of my addiction. I start walking off when I hear the gun shot, he wasn't kidding. "Take care of them..." Those were my last words.

3 years later:

Alice's POV:

I'm so glad sophomore year is almost over, this summer will be unforgettable.

"What are you doing after school?" Lilly Ann, my best friend, asks me.

"I'm not sure, Neyland won't be home and mom's working late..."

"We should totally go to Callie's party, at the beach!"

Callie... The school's biggest slut. She's been with more guys than Taylor Swift, and she's done it with every. Single. One. But I don't have anything better to do, so I guess I'll go.

"What time?" I ask Lilly Ann.

"I'll come by at 5 so we can walk down there together."

That's one of the best parts about living here, the beach is right outside my front yard.

--------------------------------------------

I get home, part of me still hopes to see my daddy waiting for me on the steps when I get home. I park my car in the garage. Daddy waited for Neyland and I everyday after school, mom always had snacks ready as soon as we walked in. He was my hero, my idol, he played tea party with Lilly Ann and me. She was as affected as I was when he passed, he was like her father, both of her parents died when she was still a baby. I know it's been 3 years since it happened, but I remember it as if it had been yesterday. It was Wednesday, August 13th, I was sitting in science class sharing jelly beans with Lilly just like every other 8th grader in that room. We heard the phone ring and we both get checked out, I wondered why. "Omg maybe they're taking us to the mall! We still haven't been school shopping!" Lilly Ann exclaims excited as ever. I was hoping she was right, but when I saw Neyland's expression, I knew we weren't going to the mall.
