Chapter 3: Jennifer | The List...

Title: The List...

POV: Jennifer

I was wrong about his name. I pronounced Azariah’s name as A-SA-RA-YA. Until now did I learn that his name is pronounced as A-ZEE-RA-YA. I’ve heard of that name once. I think it’s in the bible? Oh yeah. This hot guy’s name is in the bible. And if it’s in the bible, it means HOLY! But this damn hot guy is not holy.
But a JERK!
“You pronounced my name wrong.” Azariah chuckles, still buzzing me. “You know. I kinda liked it, you know. When you called me your baby. It’s like a message in the heaven. God, you’re so sexy.”
“You know. I’m gonna go to sleep, send your ass away from me. Okay? I’m tired, anyway.” I turn around and my face is so near at his face. Our noses are only two inches away.
“I like your name. Jennifer. And your voice.” He whispers, and I shiver.
“Stop. Flirting. Go away. Now.” I say to him, trying to hide my swoon-but-not-to-him expression.
“Your voice is my favorite sound and your name is my favorite noun.” He says. That, I blush.
What the hell is wrong with this guy?
I quickly turn around and fish my room key in my pocket, but I accidentally drop the key. I bend to pick up my room key and my butt hits some bulgy thing. Oof. Someone says.
I look behind and see my butt. It literally lies on AZARIAH’S THING-NEAR-THE-GROIN THING. OH MY GOD! I quickly straighten my body and open my room. My heart beats faster than ever. I lie my back on the door and take a deep breath. What did I just see? What did I just do?
This time, I know that I’m blushing. My face is as red as a red seductive lipstick. I didn’t even expect that to happen! It just happened!
GREAT!
I have a perfectly perfect feeling that my butt IS NO LONGER A VIRGIN. And starting now, my each day of living in this place and studying in this school will make my life a superbly hell!

I wake up with a grimace expression, because, I suddenly remember that awkward moment last night. I’ve HAD an AWKWARD MOMENT with AZARIAH last night! And it’s SUPER AWKWARD!
I don’t want to remember it, but every time I move or see my butt, I remember EVERYTHING.
EVERY. SINGLE. DETAIL.
Late afternoon. I get myself out of my room and head to the Diabolos’. It’s a non-profit store here in UC, it’s a coffee bar store run by students. The bar is small, there are seven rectangular tables with six seats each table. The floor is made of white marble tiles. There are some students chatting around with their friends. I look to my right and see Georgina, together with George. Or Greg. Whatever.
I walk to their table and hear Georgina talking. “Let’s invite, Cashmere. Wait, I’m gonna call her. Hold on a sec.” She fishes her phone in her bag’s small pocket and she looks up. I wriggle my fingers, and she laughs. “I was about to call you! You were just standing there!”
“Well, I heard you talking. So I thought, I must not interrupt you guys. So I just stood there.” I say.
“You are,” George says, pointing a finger at me. “such a dumb, sometimes, Jennifer.” He laughs. I roll my eyes, and he laughs harder. Georgina nudges his stomach using her elbow. He says Oof in a falsetto voice. I try to make a poker face but just can’t because of George and his cute Oof. “Hey, Jennifer. Try not to fall in love with me.” He winks at me, and I laugh harder.  The other students look at us. I mouth the word sorry, then they begin talking again to their friends.
“Sure I will never.” I say, biting my lips, trying not to laugh harder again. “I want some sandwich.”
“Uh-uh.” Georgina says. “They no longer sell sandwiches.”
“That sucks.” George and I both say together. George adds, “This coffee bar is famous, Jennifer. They pick the best music, and the atmosphere… is very relaxing. Plus, the staffs are friendly. And hot.” Georgina punches his right arm. He laughs. “Oh, my Georgina. Don’t be jealous. You know that my heart is only for you.” Now he makes a smooch sounds and Georgina laughs. He doesn’t stop! If I open my mouth, the voice of my laughter will be a boom! And I don’t want to be the center of attraction. So I just close my mouth, but laughing from the inside. So my whole body is vibrating. Finally, Georgina blows George a kiss on the mouth and he stops making those funny sounds.
My eyes drift on the corner of the bar and I see a lonely man with his laptop on. His headset are on his head, and it’s bobbing.
The man is sort of familiar to me. I mean, I’m pretty sure that I haven’t met yet. But he really seems familiar. His back is silhouetted, since his face is facing the glass wall, facing the sun. But I can see his dark hair. Then he looks at his left, and I notice that he’s Azariah.
I quickly turn my face back to Georgina and George. But they are making out! It’s like invading their moment. So I just bury my face in my arms.
Trying not to remember what happened last night. “Reznikoff.” George says.
“What?” I look up and see that George is talking to me.
“Reznikoff. Ivan Reznikoff. The sculptor? No?” I shake my head. Georgina says, “This store is said to be haunted by Ivan Reznikoff. The sculptor was Russian. It is said that he was buried in there,” she nods at the quadrangle. “In the northeast corner of the quadrangle. Some says that his soul is wandering their every night. Making those weird noises.” I shiver. “Since then, his ghost has been seen at regular intervals. He’s been wandering. Who is that girl again, George?”
“Jhillian McCurtney.” He grins. “Jhillian said she saw Ivan Reznikoff. And she said Reznikoff even looked at her. She freaked out. Want to visit his grave?”
“No way. I’ll just stay in here. I’m gonna order a coffee. You guys want anything?” I say, trying to break their scary storytelling.
“We wants bagels. If you don’t mind.” George says.
“Okay.”
