Harper's POV
When we got back to Ashlynn and Nicks house, I went straight to my room. Ashlynn soon came in to comfort me. I cried into her chest, I could tell that Ashlynn felt really bad for me.
When I had finally settled down a bit, she carried me down to watch TV with her.

She sat on the couch and I settled into her lap. The News was on. Suddenly something came up:

"Good afternoon folks. Today we are going to be covering the story of Pat and Jen Brown. Recently, they have been arrested for murder. The case is now being rethought, due to their adopted daughter, Harper, telling the police what actually happened. Pat and Jen were supposed to to a trial today but they had broken out of the jail they were in. Police are still trying to find them. We hope that Harper's story is true, but we can ONLY hope. Where Harper is? She is staying with one of the police officers covering the case. She is perfectly safe. Thank you. More on the story, tonight at 9:00. Stay tuned for sports on KSSM News."

I turned to Ashlynn and cried. She took her finger and pushed my chin up. She opened her mouth and sang: (a/n I changed some of the lyrics to fit the story)

She works the night, by the water
She's gonna stress, so far away from her father's daughter
She just wants a life for her baby
All on her own, no one will come
She's got to save her

She tells her "ooh love"
No one's ever gonna hurt you, love
I'm gonna give you all of my love
Nobody matters like you
She tells her "your life ain't gonna be nothing like my life
You're gonna grow and have a good life
I'm gonna do what I've got to do"

So, rockabye baby, rockabye
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry
Somebody's got you
Rockabye baby, rockabye
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry
Rockabye, no
Rockabye, yeah, yeah
Single mom what you doing out there?
Facing the hard life without no fear
Just see and know that you really care
'Cause any obstacle come you well prepared
And no mamma you never shed tear
'Cause you haffi set things year after year
And you give the youth love beyond compare
You find the school fee and the bus fare
Hmmmm more when paps disappear
In a wrong bar can't find him nowhere
Steadily you work flow, heavily you know so you nah stop
No time no time

Now she gotta a six year old
Trying to keep her warm
Trying to keep all the cold
When she looks her in the eyes
She don't know she's safe when she says

"Ooh love"
No one's ever gonna hurt you, love
I'm gonna give you all of my love
Nobody matters like you

So, rockabye baby, rockabye
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry
Somebody's got you
Rockabye baby, rockabye
I'm gonna rock you
Rockabye baby, don't you cry
Rockabye, no
Rockabye, yeah

Rockabye don't bother cry
Lift up your head, lift it up to the sky, yo
Rockabye don't bother cry
Angels around you, just joy your eye

I wrap my arms around Ashlynn and she squeezes me tight.
"How 'bout this, we'll go the nearest dance studio tomorrow and you can dance there until we get everything figured out. You can even do competition."  Ashlynn smiled. I'm pretty sure that at that moment, I was the happiest kid on Earth.

"What does the studio look like?" I ask. Ashlynn stands up and walks across the room to the computer. She types in a few words before a screen pops up.
"Legacy Dance Studio." I whisper.
"It has a tumbling room, 4 studios. Oh! And a waiting room, perfect for me to watch you dance!" I nod my head slowly, thinking.

After awhile, I finally speak.
"It's perfect! I can't wait 'till tomorrow!" Ashlynn chuckles.
"Yeah, but until then, let's eat and get to bed!"

~

The next morning we got up and drove downtown to the dance studio. It was very busy inside. People were running in every direction, some with costumes in hand. The lady at the front desk greeted us.
"Sorry for the mess, we have a competition in 3 days so we're getting ready and it's a disaster. I'm Sherri, by the way. How can I help you?"

"I would like to sign her up for dance, and competition. If that's possible." Ashlynn said. Sherri nodded.
"Of course! We're always looking for new students. Do you think she could learn a dance in 2 days?"

"I can do that!" I piped up.

"Ok, great. Follow me. It's going to be an acro solo, if that's ok."
"That's fine, I'm pretty flexible and love to do flips and tricks!" Sherri took me to a room with mats, those weird ramp mats and a tumble track in the corner.

"Step right up here." She said. I stepped onto the tumble track and I faced her.

"Alright. I'm going to ask you if you can do a skill and you can do it, or tell me if you can't. Just don't hurt yourself." Sherri started naming skills.

"Roundoff."
Done
"Cartwheel."
Yep
"Side aerial."
Did it
"Front handspring."
Needs work
"Back walkover."
Close
"Front walkover."
Almost
"Back handspring."
No

"Ok, so now, come to the floor and do all of the skills that you can do." Sherri said. I stepped onto the squishy, blue may and started with my skills. They were a bit harder on the floor than on the tumble track, but I managed.

Next, she wanted me to be able to do a back handspring, as I will be doing a few of those in my solo. We went back onto the track and she put a few mats underneath me. Sherri placed a hand on my back and helped me flip over. When I could do it on the track by myself, we brought it down to the floor.

She spotted me like she did on the track until I could do it flawlessly without her.
"Nice job! You tired?" I nodded. She took me into a different room with a hard wood floor and we started working on my dance. We got about halfway through before we had to go. She gave me a competition jacket and costume. My dance was to the song,  Sign of the Times by Harry Styles. And the costume was beautiful.

"Oh, uh, Sherri? Where is the competition?" I asked.
"Green Bay. Yeah, we have to travel a ways for nationals. We'll be gone for about 3 days. You'll come here and we will leave. I'll tell you more tomorrow." Sherri said and walked away. I went to find my mo- Ashlynn and tell her.

I love Ashlynn and all, but I don't think of her as my mom. I have a mom. And my parents are coming to find me, or I'll find them. I hope luck is in my side this time.

Guys! I finally updated! The next chapter is just going to be the competition, but there is going to be a twist. Enjoy! Sorry for the bad chapter and if there is any mistakes.
