How do you get over embarrassment? To see people in the halls after you make a fool out of yourself? Is it even possible to not melt into a pool of insecurities?
For example, Reggie and Scott. She'd accused them of lying, and nobody liked to be accused of that.
And her whole relation was overwhelming.
"Listen, Mara," Reggie had said. "I really like you. Maybe that's why I was such an asshole to you.
But, I have a set of rules that I need to follow and whoever I'm dating has to follow as well. And right now, you're breaking half of them."
Which makes the whole thing awkward when Olivia asks Mara to go with her and the group to the drive in.
She, of course, said yes. She wanted to see how her old friends have been doing. But she never thought they'd all ditch her and leave her with Stella.
The two sat there quietly, waiting for the night to end. It seemed to take too long, as there was too much tension. Stella finally muttered something about half way through the movie.
"Just because you don't see pain doesn't mean it's not there."
Mara's head snapped toward her, an angry expression on her face. "Oh, yeah? What kind of pain, Stella?"
The cars around them shushed them, angry as it is. The Southside Serpents were causing a ruckus in the very back, making it difficult to watch the movie.
Stella turned around to glare at the Serpents before glancing back at Mara. Scoffing, she shook her head. "You wouldn't know, Mara. And you don't know me. Or who I am."
Mara had to resist the urge to roll her eyes. Didn't know Stella? Of course she did! It wasn't like she never payed any attention to Stella when they grew up together.
"Yeah, okay Stell. Keep thinking that," Mara sighed, leaning back into the pillow behind her back.
The movie seemed to go on forever, and the tension between the two girls only grew. Their actions were beginning to get tedious, as they glanced at the other when the other isn't looking but quickly looked away. Mara and Stella had been really close, though Jason Blossom's death broke them apart.
The girls wanted nothing more to become close again, though it was hard. How were they to become close again? How could they put aside their harsh differences?
"Lets go to Pop's," Mara suggested. "To catch up."
Stella side glanced at Mara. "I don't even have money, Baker," Stella muttered. Mara knew that times were tight. Stella couldn't help but feel bitter and offended.
"I'll pay. You could always pay me back, Stell," Mara replied. "You know I hate owing people," Stella argued. "Then let me back in the band. That could be your payment," Mara offered.
Stella merely nodded.
They both sat up, but Stella touched Mara's arm lightly. "Wait," Stella bursted. Mara turned around, a confused look in her eyes. The look turned even more confused as Stella muttered, "I want to try something."
Their faces got closer and closer as Stella leaned in towards Mara. Stella's eyes were on Mara's lips the whole time and Mara couldn't help but stare at Stella's plump lips.
Stella couldn't handle the sexual tension, and finally crashed her lips into Mara's. Mara nearly gasped, not expecting such force or such attraction.
She smiled into the kiss, climbing on top of Stella in the process. She never thought about a situation like this and she definitely didn't think Reggie was watching her with a broken heart.

* AUTHORS NOTE : another update, this chapter a little less confusing. So, I have decided what I want to do with this book and I'm not sure there WILL be a book 2. I'm probably going to have to wait for season 2, to see if Reggie will be more involved or not. But I do know I'm open to ideas, like spinoffs or something. I don't know if most of you are just silent readers, but I'd really appreciate feedback. Also, summer walk is coming up for me so more time to update which means more frequent updates :) Thank you -rebekah
