When I got back to the room, my room I guess, I groaned and flopped down onto the bed. As I was unpeeling my second banana, someone knocked on the door and I groaned again.

            “What?” I snapped.

“Ashland? Could you let me in?” a voice outside the door said. “I'm Markus, the Academy's doctor.”

I groaned, but got up and pulled open the door, to reveal a man, who looked shockingly like Seth. Markus had the same black hair that was graying in some areas, but, instead of blue eyes, he had green eyes. He was in a button down green shirt, had a pair of glasses and he smiled when he saw me.

I leaned against the door frame and shoved some banana in my mouth. “Yeah?”

“Hi,” Markus said. “Sometime this week, I need you to come down to the lab for blood tests.”

            I raised an eyebrow, “Needles?”

Markus nodded, “Yeah, I'd also recommend you have more than two bananas for dinner,” he said.

I smiled sheepishly, “I would, but I don't really want to go back there,” I said.

Markus chuckled, “Follow me,” he said, “I'll show you the kitchen.”

I shook my head, “Can't cook.” I said.

Markus raised an eyebrow and said, “I'll show you.”

“Don't you have doctoryish things to do?” I asked.

Markus shook his head, “I'm off, I'm supposed to be checking on you.”

            I finished my banana, “Alright.”

Markus smiled and led me down the hall, “You know, it's not that bad here.”

“So far, I've been kidnapped, drugged three times, attacked by a smart mouth kid, who I beat up, and treated like an exhibit at the zoo,” I rolled my eyes, “but you're right, it's not that bad.”

“It's only because you're new,” Markus said.

I groaned as we walked into a kitchen area, “Why is everything so white?”

Markus laughed, “I've been asking myself the same thing since I got here,” he said, walking over to the island. “What do you want to eat?”

            “Cheeseburger,” I said.

Markus laughed, “Anything else? You can't live off of cheeseburgers,” he said.

I thought for a moment, “Mac and cheese?”

Markus laughed and pulled out a pan, “You're just like my som,” he said.

            “Seth’s your kid?” I asked.

Markus nodded and filled the pot with water, “Yeah, he's on your team.”

“I figured, you two look alike.”

“I've got three kids,” Markus said as he put the pot on the... heatyish thingy (don't judge, I'm bad with appliances) and turned it on.

I tilted my head, “They're all here?” I asked.

“Yeah, my older kids are my assistants,” Markus said.

I raised an eyebrow, “They grew up here?”

Markus nodded and he poured a box of noodles into the pot as he said, “There are a few kids who grew up here.”

I looked around the kitchen, “Where's the cheese?” I asked.

“We've got to make it,” Markus said.

“We have to make the cheese? From what?”

Markus laughed, “We don't have to make the cheese, we just have to melt it,” he said. “Sometimes we get it from a package, but this tastes way better.”

“Alright, how do we do this?” I asked.

Markus grinned and said, “Get some cheese from the fridge and I'll show you.”
