My eyes flickered open, only to be in the presence of darkness. I sat upright quickly scanning where I was. Where was I? Everything was way too dark. My eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness. I could just see outline of a bed that I was lying on, but the rest was a blur. I put my hand to my head, a headache swelled up as soon as I touched it. But it was bandaged.
"H-hello?" I called out into the darkness and didn't know what to expect. Luckily there was no reply. I unravelled my bandage and placed it on a desk beside my bed; I saw a small lamp so I flicked it on. It luminated the whole room and flickered slightly. I was in a hospital room. It was just like an ordinary hospital room except it looked abandoned and old. There were a few beds that looked slept in but not made. There were bits of paper scattered on the floor and on the beds. The curtains were shut but moved freely as if there was a small breeze. The room felt cold, like no one has lived or stayed here in a while. Even with the light that shone through all the shadows, It felt dark and creepy. Why was I here?
I slide off the bed smoothly and crossed the room to the door. I tried to open it but it just clicked in its lock. It had a keyhole. Damn! I need to find the key. I scanned the small room, but where?
I moved to the other side of the room, past all the beds and equipment to the drawn curtains. No light went through them; maybe it was night. I pulled them open and gasped to see a dark purply blue void. It swirled and twisted into many shapes and then disappeared into nothing. I gasped and closed the curtains again, glad there was a window that seperated me from the void. I spun around taking in the room I was in. Many questions whizzed through my mind.
All the pieces of paper on the floor looked ripped and torn, maybe I should piece together. I walked around the room gathering them all together in a small pile. Then I sat on the floor, spread them out, and pieced them together one by one. At first it didn't make sense, but when the last piece was placed with the others, it all made sense. It was a newspaper article, it read:
Mysterious deaths amongst stundents
5 young students from one particular secondary school have all died mysteriously in the period of 5 days. They have been said to have died on each day of the school week. There was no damage to any of their bodies and have all failed every test, including drugs and alcohol tests. There are no witnesses of any of these deaths and have been said to be perfectly normal the days before they were discovered. Scientists have been left baffled, but are still looking into the cause of these mysterious deaths. The bodies have been named...
Then the bottom had been torn off. I just sat there, at first confused. Is this supposed to mean something about why I am here? I sighed heavily which just blew half of them out of place. I thought deeply about what I had just read. I felt lost, was I missing something? Then I noticed a smidgen of red on the back of one of the pieces. Of course! Maybe there is something on the other side. I took another few minutes turning all the pieces over again and piecing them together again. And In large red felt tip pen were four large numbers:
5742
I stood up quickly grabbing a small handful of the papers and lodging them in my pocket, maybe there was a safe or lock around, it might hold something to get out of this place. I stood up and jogged to bed 1 and opened the small closet like doors next to it. Nothing. Bed 2. Nothing. Bed 3. Held a small and simple flip up phone. I tried to 999 but it just came up blank. It was in use. I put it in my pocket just in case and carried on into the next bed. And sure enough, there was an old looking safe. It had a range of numbers on it. So I dialled the numbers I could remember. 5742. It clicked open and I almost squeacked with joy if I wasn't so terrified. It was a shiney small key. I picked it up and ran over to the door. *CLICK* I slowly opened the door and it squeaked loudly and it echoed down a large hall; It looked as light as the room I was in, yet there were no lights on. The whole place looked deserted. I was about to walk down the hall when the door slammed shut behind me. I tried to push the door back but it had locked again. I almost groaned as I heard breathing behind me. I turned around to find 2 nurses talking right infront of me; as if I wasn't there.
