I woke up and saw my parents. They were with my little brother. He just hatched a few days ago.

Hi, I'm Clyde. I am one year old.

I went off to slide on the ice. It's my favorite thing to do. I turned around as saw that my family, and the rest of the other penguins, were really far away. As I started to waddle back, I saw the ice break a few feet in front of me. I was trapped on a block of ice, all by myself, and no way to get back.

I had been floating for a while when I started to feel the water move faster. I looked down into the water and couldn't make out what I saw. All of a sudden it popped up and I could tell exactly what it was.

"Well, well, well. What is a little penguin doing out here? Have you come to be my dinner?" It was a leopard seal, one of the penguins biggest predators.

"Please, leave me be. Please don't hurt me."

"Now now, no reason to be afraid. This will be quick and painless."

I started backing up as far as I could away from the leopard seal. I fell into the water and the leopard seal started coming after me. I closed my eyes, bracing myself to be eaten. I felt teeth on my skin and I came out of the water. I was placed back onto the iceberg. I opened my eyes to see a minke whale. A penguin's closest friend.

"Why don't you leave him alone and pick on somebody your own size?" He said to the leopard seal. It swam off.

"Hi, my name is Aaron. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. My name is Clyde."

"Nice to meet you. Now tell me, Clyde, how did you wind up way out here?"

"I was playing and the ice broke and now I am out here."

"Well let's see if we can get you back to where you belong. Hop in."

Aaron opened his mouth to let me sit there. I wasn't afraid that he would swallow me so I hopped off the ice block and into his mouth. He closed his mouth and went under the water.

Before I knew it he opened his mouth and I could see my family standing in front of me. I hopped out and my parents gave me a big hug.

"We're so glad you're okay." The said

I turned to Aaron.

"You saved my life today and returned me to my family. Thank you."

"My pleasure. I'm just happy I got there when I did. A few seconds later and you would've been dead."

Aaron swam off and my family and I waddled away.

Today was an adventure, but I don't want to do that ever again.
