Scarlet wanted to sit next to Ruby in all lessons, so that's how it ended up. Usually, Ruby would hate to be in these kinds of situations, since it made her feel that something horrible would occur sooner or later. But this time, for the first time in a long time, she was actually enjoying it. A lot. Ruby couldn't remember the last time someone at school had spoken to her. Been nice to her.
She kept glancing at Scarlet, examining her, and trying to make sure this won't end in a horrible way.
Scarlet's long, red hair rested lightly on her shoulders, while her eyes darted about the room, looking at everything around her. Scarlet must have been happy, for her eyes sparkled like diamonds.
It's not like she made any friends here yet. She didn't. And as long as she would spend time hanging out with Ruby, she wouldn't have any. Usually, Ruby would have wanted a bothersome girl like Scarlet to go away and make some new friends, but, this time, she wanted to have her, Ruby wanted Scarlet. She needed her. A long time without proper human contact can do strange things to a person...
"So hey... Are you alright? You seem down.." Ruby felt a hand pat her on the shoulder. She turned her head and saw a worried smile on Scarlet's face. Was someone actually worried about Ruby for once...?
"Ah, yeah. I'm uh... I'm alright..." Ruby replied silently, not wanting to bring attention to herself.
"Well, alright then. If you say so. But, remember, if ever you need help, or feel down, I'm here for you!"Again with that smile of hers. It just seemed to Ruby that this red-headed girl never stopped smiling.
Ruby promised herself at that very moment what she would do. If anyone, and that means anyone, did or said something to hurt Scarlet, they would pay. Oh, how they would pay... They would regret being born onto this very earth, that's how much they would pay.
"I'll be here for you too..."
Scarlet turned around to face Ruby, the smile still plastered across her face. "Really? Thank you!" She looked even happier than before, if such a thing were possible.Ruby wanted this moment to last forever. She wanted to leave her old life behind, and start a new one right here and now, with her companion Scarlet at her side.
But, she knew she couldn't. What she had done was too terrible to be left behind. These people turned her into a monster, and she would have to continue being that. She couldn't escape it. It was already too late.
"Oh look, the freak finally made a friend!"
"I wonder how long it'll take for this one to leave her..."
"Hah! She doesn't deserve any friends! She is a freak, after all."
"Poor Scarlet, she's stuck with Ruby now! She's so gonna regret it after no one's going to want to be friends with her!"
Already, chatter had started in the classroom. Today's topic; The freak has a friend.
"Stupid idiots... Ignore them Ruby, they're not worth your time."
Scarlet's right. They're not. But Ruby can't help but feel anger and pain well up inside of her. She clenched her fists and stared down at the table. Breathing heavily, she put her head into her hands and started counting to ten."Thank you, Scarlet."
"Your welcome, Ruby."
