She woke up before Jace. She wouldn't let this work, because she had a month and as much as she hated to admit it, Amber was right. She didn't need any distractions. She took her mothers bag, and slowly closed the door behind her. Changing her clothes, she grabbed her backpack heading for Renee's once again and this time she wasn't coming back.
By the time she got there Renee was already expecting her.

"Are you okay darling? You just ran off like that. I know how overwhelmed you must be."

"I'm fine now." She smiled.

"I don't know why I'm here but only that the map lead me here. But maybe I haven't gotten the information I needed. I know this is going to sound absolutely insane but, do you believe in magic?"

Renee laughed, "of course darling. Magic is how it all started, magic is how it all ends. "

"So are we all born with magic..?"

"You want me to tell you whether or not you have magical abilities." She looked Amethyst straight in the eyes.

"Yes."

"You do. We all do."

"Well, what is it? I haven't felt any magical powers ever.."

"You have great power Amethyst but you won't discover your power alone. You will have a guide, someone who teaches you."

"How do you know that?"

"I can see bits and pieces of the future" she smiled. "Partly the reason why I was expecting you."

"That must be why the map led me to you!"

"Who will be my guide."

"There's only so much I can see darling. There is one thing you need." She grabbed an envelope from her drawer. She pulled out a large gold coin

" Oh Renee, really I couldn't..."

"No, u can. It works like the pearls Persephone kept at the underworld. Step on it and think of where you would like to go. And only use it in an emergency. Where there is no escape."

She smiled gratefully, hugging Renee for the last time before heading to her next stop.

As she walked back to the motel she bumped into Jace.

"Why'd you just leave." He asked.

Cold Amethyst. Remember cold. She told herself she didn't need distractions.

"Well I had something to look into, I was just heading back to the motel to give my keys back. "

"Where are you going?" He asked trying to stop me.

"Thank you for taking care of me last night. I was at my worst, but I can't tell you."

"Then let me come with you."

"No." Amethyst was surprised how cold her voice sounded.

"Amethyst. There's something special about you. And I won't give up. If you don't let me come. I'll follow you."

"Jace. I can't. I have a deadline. I don't need you. I don't know you." She knew her words sting.

"You're right. We only met two nights ago. But I assure you,  I'll be an amazing companion, and I can hunt pretty damn awesome. I'll pretty much have your back."

She was warming up to the idea. "No distractions" her aunts voice whispered at the back of her head. She was curious. What was Jace here for and why was he dropping it for her. She didn't ask, she didn't pry. She returned her keys to the girl with the blue hair and turned to the map with the second destination.

"Okay."

"Okay? I can come?"

"Yes. Don't make me change my mind." She said bored.

"You know I think you're sweet when you're tired and sad. Are you this feisty the rest of the time?"

She laughed, "oh boy, this is nothing."
