Bumping Into Each Other

The several glances you’d given him only made you lose focus. You couldn’t help it, though you weren’t close you couldn’t ignore the fact he was good looking; the way his black hair fell over his eyes that always held their own sparkle, his puppy like smile, his personality that was one in a million. There was noway you could deny that you were beginning to like him.

Ever since you’re first year of school the two of you had talked quite a bit yet you weren’t friends. You remembered how you were always in 2 or 3 of each others lessons, it was like you were meant to be friends yet you never made it there. 

Your friends teased you about him which, over the years, only forced you into subconsciously liking him. You were supposed to be listening to the teacher talk but you couldn’t. Not with Baekhyun fidgeting around in the chair in front of you, your attention just fell on him naturally. 

He started bouncing on his chair and the people around him told him to stop to which he responded by bouncing even more and laughing. You brushed your hair away from your face and rested your head in your hands while still looking at him. 

You started zoning out, your mind started making up impossible scenarios which soon turned to what you had to do when you got home and all that nonsense, anything to make you forget about the lesson.

Unfortunately you zoned out while looking at Baekhyun, making it look like you were staring at him. Because of your dazed stance you didn’t realise when he turned around and stared at you weirdly.

“Yoohoo, helloooo” Baekhyun waved his hands in front of your face but it didn’t stop you, not until he pretended to punch you “Pow! Ahaha, got you” there was a small silence as you blinked a few times, trying to regain focus and try to understand the fact you were caught ‘staring’ at him. You looked at him again, this time you knew you were looking, and saw him raising his eyebrows over and over “So? Why were you staring at me?”

“I was but only because I zoned out" 

He nodded knowingly before turning back around- "So did you zone out because you were thinking of me?” he laughed to himself but luckily his back was against you so he didn’t see you fan your face from embarrassment.

Baekhyun let out a soft sigh and rested his face on his hands She’s so cute, she’s nice as well he started thinking about you and before you knew it the lesson ended.

You walked down the road after work, it had been a few years since school had ended but you still had thoughts about Baekhyun, if only your friends didn’t tease you about him constantly you wouldn’t be thinking of a guy you could never get with. 

It was bad enough that you couldn’t tell him how you felt during those school years but now you couldn’t stop the random thoughts coming into your head.

How it would have been if you told him, whether he liked you back or not, maybe you didn’t like him and mistook his kindness for feelings. Letting out a sigh you turned the corner and bumped into someone. You were quick to apologise, you cursed yourself for being too caught up in Baekhyun as you carried on walking, or at least you tried.

The person you bumped into grabbed you by your wrist and then held your shoulders to make sure you stayed in place. “_____”

The familiar yet long gone voice brought you back to reality. Looking up you met those dark brown eyes you hadn’t seen for the long years, the smile at followed on both yours and his face had a different feel to the smiles you used to exchange. 

“Baekhyun”

Slowly the sun starting setting in the background as you and Baekhyun stayed sat in the small cafe, nothing really mattered to the both of you as you carried on chatting and catching up on each others lives.

“I’m so glad you bumped into me, I guess we were always meant to be” Baekhyun gave you a cheesy wink before covering his mouth and laughing from his explode of cheesiness. 

Running your fingers through your hair you thought of whether or not you should ask about how he felt towards you. Adrenaline filled you and your heart started pounding, you could find out everything right now, it didn’t really matter because it was the past.

What did you have to lose? 

Just as you built up the courage and prepared yourself to talk you were stopped by his voice- “You know…I liked you. I don’t mean like as in friends I mean like” He pulled at his lips with his sharp fingernails as he nervously smiled at you.

It felt as if all the doubts and worries lifted off you, your jaw fell slack and you stared at him, confused. “Really?”

Baekhyun started nodding slightly and avoided looking at you, it seemed he was too nervous about how you’d respond. As soon as he heard “I did too” he looked at you again, with a large smile.

You cleared your throat before speaking up again. “I never told you though, we weren’t…I don’t know, we weren’t close…so it would have been weird to suddenly tell you, you know? Besides I didn’t know if you had a girlfriend already or what” a small, involuntary laugh left your lips.

“I never told you for the same reason, ha” His voice got quieter at the end of his sentence. His face changed and his started swaying on his chair, something he used to do in school whenever he was thinking of if he should say something or not, a little smile pulled at your lips at the familiar sight.

Silence fell above the two of you, not an uncomfortable one, one where neither of you felt like saying anything, a silence that said more than a few words could have; how you both regret not telling the other.

You both looked up at the same time and made awkward eye contact and laughed.

“D-Do you have a boyfriend?”

Shaking your head at his question you felt your heart flutter, maybe today would be the day but you doubted it. He seemed like he had a girlfriend anyway, the same excuse you told yourself during the school years popped back in your head.

“Okay, because I still like you”
