What if Kaneki's crush was a ghoul?
"I've been watching her for the past month almost. It's not creepy, promise! I just really love her, the way the laughs and smiles with her friends, the books she always carries in her arms..."
Kaneki laughed softly to himself as he recounted the conversation he had with his best friend Haise not too long ago. "I'm not creepy..." he muttered to himself as he watched the girl enter the library she always went to. He followed. She stayed there late into the night, tucked into a comfortable chair with Pet Cemetary by Stephen King open on her lap. Kaneki himself had one of Sen Takatsuki's classics open in front of him. She looked so peaceful in that state, as if that book was everything she needed from the world. So cute..
Kaneki's mind began to wonder in the still air of the silent library. What would she do if i came up to her and tried to talk? Would she smile at me like she does at her friends? Or turn away in disgust? He gulped heavily. Oh no, he wouldn't be able to stand that, the idea of being shut away from her was too much to bear. His thoughts didn't have enough time to ramble onwards much longer because suddenly the girl rose up, looking around worriedly. Before Kaneki knew it, she was packing her belongings and heading towards the door. No, wait.... ! Kaneki thought as he himself began to rise from his warm chair.
As he made his way out the door of the library his ears were assaulted by loud shouts and yelling. The CCG marched down the streets with chants and orders ringing through the streets. He lost sight of his crush, but in the midst of the pandemonium, those thoughts were no longer on his mind. Was there a ghoul attack? He didn't care to find out and began to make his way towards his house at a brisk pace. But nevertheless, the thoughts pervaded his mind and at some point or the other, Kaneki became lost in the dark alleys of the night.
Kaneki's heart pounded in his chest as he tried to remember his past steps with panick. Before he could get far a trash bin exploded behind him, spilling the contents into the street. Kaneki screamed.
"A skinny little boy wouldn't provide enough nourishment for even one day, but you'll do I suppose." A black silhouette laughed loud and heartily from the roof above him.
Kaneki looked up. His breath hitched and he cried out in fear. It was moving in a sporadic blur. It jumped from one rusty pipe to another until a burly ghoul stood in front of him, his purply tentacle-like kagune swishing out behind him. The man's beady eyes gleamed with amused indifference, drawing out a wide smile.
"Whatch'oo doin out here so late at night anyways, boy? Suppose it don't matter much now anyways." The ghoul said as his hand darted out to grab at Kaneki.
"Pl-please don't come any closer!!" Kaneki cried, loud and shrilly as he made to turn. His legs gave out in the middle of the act and he went sprawling.
"FREEZE GHOUL OR WE WILL OPEN FIRE."
Both men turned to see the CCG moving steadily towards the two of them. Yes! Help me! Kaneki mentally screamed at them. Without a second's hesitation, the strong, callused hand of the ghoul seized Kaneki's right arm and tugged him forward on his feet. The force could have been strong enough to rip his arm off, but by some miracle, it didn't.
"C'mon boy, get movin!"
Somehow, Kaneki did. And as the two disappeared into the darkness, the light from the CCG's men became fainter and fainter. He was so close, but now his fate was sealed... he would be some monster's late night dinner.
Time seemed to drag on forever as the chase continued. There was always the faint sound of marching footsteps, but it was too negligable to offer any solace to Kaneki's pain. His arm was dead numb from the wrenching and tugging as he was guided like cattle through dark alleys and sharp corners. Kaneki came to accept that he was going to die when he heard a familiar laugh. It sounded so sweet, so angelic, but where had he heard it before...? It was almost like.. yes. That was it. It was her. The girl. The girl had come to save him! Kaneki's eye widened as his head turned to the source of the laugh. Happiness was still roughly imprinted upon his face when he saw her. Only it wasn't the girl he had known. Oh no, the girl he had known couldn't be... a ghoul?!
The girl stood obstructing their path, a long, spindling green kagune protruding from her back.
"Wh-whaa..?!" Kaneki sputtered in shocked surprise and dawning horror.
"Well well, if it isn't stalker boy." The girl cackled with amused eyes, hands on hip.
The burly male ghoul's grip on Kaneki's arm tightened as he looked at the girl impatiently. "Mina you pushy bitch, get outta my way."
Mina ignored this, her attention shifting to Kaneki. "You're the one that's been following me around for weeks now, isn't that right ha? I can see it's true, it's written all over your face." She looked down at Kaneki with a sneer.
Footsteps echoed deftly from the alley behind them and the burly man's impatience turned to rage.
The man's hands shot forward with a yell, kagune swaying back and forth in rapid succession. The moment his hands entered Mina's reach, she caught them. The girl twisted his hands firmly behind his back with painful precision. Kaneki only looked on gaping as the man stood screaming in agony.
"Hand over that boy." Mina cooed at him jovially.
"Pushy bitch." He muttered as he grabbed Kaneki by the neck and threw him to the ground with brutal strength. The ghoul wasted no time in springing forward, upwards, and away. He was gone in seconds while Kaneki's face was still making contact with the ground.
As the air stilled around the two of them, Kaneki slowly raised his head to look up into the girl's eyes as blood pooled out of his nose. The girl smiled down at hime with warm eyes that made his cheeks flush red.
"I think I've taken a liking to you, stalker boy."
