I'll never forget the day I met Yamaguchi Tadashi. It was a warm August afternoon and I was on my way home from school when I heard shouting. I usually ignored annoying situations such as these but I felt curious.
I had never been a curious person.
I made my way towards the noise and watched as a group of kids pushed a small boy to the ground. I clicked my tongue watching as they confiscated his backpack and shook it till all the contents were on the floor. Jerks. I stayed where I was intrigued. The boy didn't cry, he didn't say a word. He just let it happen.
"Hey." I called slowly making my way towards the group. They all turned my way four pairs of eyes landed on me.
"Can I help you?" The apparent leader of the group asked. He had an ugly sneer on his ugly face as he tried to intimidate me. Of course that was hard considering the kid barely reached my shoulder. I narrowed my eyes taking a step forward. He took a small, almost unnoticeable step back. "I-I'll ask again." He spoke this time with less confidence "Can I help you?" I glared at him and took another menacing step forward.
"Leave." I said and his eyes widened in shock as if he couldn't believe I had just spoke against him. When he didn't budge I spoke again "Leave." I glared and raised my fist as if I was about to punch him. Of course I would never waste my strength on such filth but he didn't know that because he scrambled away as fast as he could his companions quick on his tail.
Now that I was closer I could see the boy clearly. He was a small skinny thing with brunette hair and his face was covered in freckles. He began mumbling incoherently picking his stuff up off the ground. I bent down to help him but the boy stopped me.
"I didn't need help." He mumbles so softly I barely hear him. I just shrug and continue to help him gather his stuff. He doesn't say anything until we finish stuffing his things back into his bag. He stands and extends his right hand. "Tadashi." He mumbles "Yamaguchi Tadashi." I grab his small hand shaking it firmly. "Tsukkishima Kei."
And that's how it began.
Quick A/n: Because I have never learned Japanese culture, this story will be based in America, which means American culture will be influenced. I hope no one is offended or upset by this.
