"what are you doing there?" i heard a voice shout. i turned around and saw a blonde boy, about 6 feet tall, with sweatpants and a t-shirt on. i automatically knew who it was.

i smirked.

"would you look at that. never thought i would see you somewhere else than your elite little lunch table at school."

he gave me a confused look, almost hurt. "is t-that really what you think of me?"

wow. like he would believe anything else.

i just slung my bag over my shoulder and stood up from the bench i was on, and began making my way in the opposite direction.

i almost forgot to introduce myself.

i'm marina west. but if you asked anyone at school, they wouldn't know. they would just make the usual remarks, "who?" or "never heard of her." but it doesn't really bother me anymore.

after all, i'm a "grade a nerd."

not the kind of nerd you hear about in books or movies, that spends all her time doing geometry or things like that.

that's just what the football captain said. goes by the name of calum hood. i replied to his remark with some words along the lines of "you're a grade a jerk." but of course he didn't hear. it was a faint mumble.

but here i am. in central park, with his partner in crime shouting after me. his name is luke hemmings.

"marina where the hell are you going?"

i clench my jaw and turn around.

"how in the world do you know my name, and actually, i was trying to get as far away from you as possible."

"wow. that hurt. big time. and i know your name because you've been in at least one of my classes every year since the third grade. how would i not notice you?"

here's the thing about luke. he acts like the typical popular boy. i have to admit, he was extremely attractive. but his jerky personality wasn't a plus.

every day he wore black skinny jeans with a t-shirt, usually sporting the name of a band he liked. he topped it all off with black vans and his signature quiff and a permanent smirk plastered on his face.

you wouldn't expect him to be in all the smartest classes along with me. you also wouldn't expect him to be wearing sweatpants. that boy basically strangles his legs on a daily basis.

"whatever hemmings. whatever."

and that was the end of the conversation.

there was no "good-bye" or "sorry i was a jerk to you freshman year when i tripped you in the hallway on the way to english" from him.

in fact, even if he did say anything, i wouldn't have noticed. i was too focused on playing with the small bracelet my best friend michael gave me for my birthday and speed walking away from luke.

this was going to be a long night.
