Chris's POV
Watching the neighbor girl sneak out her window and quickly climb down the tree close to her window then take off running down the street, I spoke out loud, not expecting anyone to be around to hear me “Why doesn't she just go out of the front door?”
After getting a bottle of water from the fridge, Ricky answered while he looked out our kitchen with me as the dark brown haired girl disappeared into the midnight darkness “The new neighbor, Emily? I'm not completely sure why she sneaks out every night but I think it might be because of her dad and mom always arguing. I would sneak out too if I was her, sometimes I can even hear them arguing at night.” Thinking for a second, I opened my mouth to ask why she doesn't just leave out the front door, if they're arguing that bad they probably wouldn't even notice her leaving, but Ricky continued “I've only seen her a few times but the times I have she looked pretty roughed up, so I don't know, maybe she sneaks out to avoid family issues.”
Feeling sympathy for the new neighbor I frowned slightly and commented “Poor kid. At least she is smart enough to sneak out to avoid her family problems, I wonder where she goes though.”
Shrugging as he headed into the living room, Ricky answered “I'm not sure, I think she has a friend that picks her up down the street. I think I saw Emily sneak out one night and a few minutes later I was going to see Jess and I saw Emily get in a car with someone at the end of the street.”
The rest of the night, I couldn't get the neighbor girl I have never talked to off my mind, I spent most of the night laying in bed and thinking about her. It wasn't til almost two in the morning that I came to the conclusion that I had to talk to her, I had to know where she was disappearing to every night and why.
