Entry #39: How To Be Loved

HOW TO BE LOVED

Two boys sat on a rooftop ledge overlooking the busy streets below them.

Boy 1: So, how do you make people love you?

Boy 2: Let's see. Do what the grown ups do. First, you get sad, then you show everyone that you're tired and that you're ready to give up.

Boy 1: What else?

Boy 2: Umm, you go to a roof and jump off!

Boy 1: Are you sure that'll work?

Boy 2: Well... You know Jeannie from 4th grade? She had a sister who got lots of flowers when she did that. They put it all in her locker and on her seat in the classroom.

Boy 1: Jeannie's sister loves flowers right?

Boy 2: And everyone wrote poems for her!

Boy 1: That is so cool!

Boy 2: They even put flowers on the sidewalk and had a huge picture of her.

Boy 1: Wow!

Boy 2: And she even showed her face on TV!!!

Boy 1: Man, they really love her huh?

Boy 2: Yup! I'm gonna do that when I grow up!

Boy 1: Me too!!!

The two boys giggled and gave each other a high five while a little girl watched behind them.

Girl 1: Idiots. They don't know what they're talking about.

Girl 2: Aren't you going to stop them?

Girl 1: They don't understand how to love someone. They don't even know how to say sorry to you.

Girl 2: It's alright. I forgive them. I hope you can forgive me too, for hurting you.

Girl 1: You shouldn't forgive them! They did this to you! I didn't hurt you, did I? I always loved you!

Girl 2: And I always loved you too. I'm sorry for being weak.

Girl 1: You shouldn't have left me. I miss you.

Girl 2: I miss you too, Jeannie.
